Smoldering process When smoldering bituminous, carbonaceous materials
indirect heating can generally only be achieved with relatively low heating gas temperatures
work, as is evident from the fact that smoldering is coking
is at low temperature. Therefore, the thermal efficiency is the
There is only little heating here. With the indirect heating of the smoldering retorts there are two
In principle, there are various options for heating gas management, namely the
Guiding the gas in cocurrent or in countercurrent to the carbonization gas.
In the countercurrent process, the hot heating gases flow into the furnace
the side where the corrugated good is discharged, and then flow towards it
towards smoldering good. But since this is generally not heated above 600 ° C
may be allowed to prevent cracking of the resulting smoldering sea, is also allowed
the heating gas temperature must not be higher than the maximum permissible temperature for the
Schwelgut. As the hot gases flow towards the smoldering food, they leave the oven
where the cold and possibly moist carbonized food enters the oven, see above
that the heating gas can be cooled down quite a bit. Despite this long cooling
the countercurrent heating is bad because, as I said, the gases with very
must enter the smoldering furnace at a low temperature.
Mängel an.Attempts have therefore been made to use the direct current method for heating
to improve. The hot gases enter the furnace on the side of the inlet
of the goods to be smoldered and can, since they are still cold, even relatively
being hot. In this case, the smoldering product is not yet at the smoldering temperature,
there is therefore no risk of cracking. Only when the heating gases as a result of drying
and heating of the smoldering product to the smoldering temperature have largely cooled down,
smoldering tears arise, which are no longer damaged by the relatively cool gas
can be. The hot gases leave the furnace on the after the goods have subsided
The side where the hot smoldering residue also leaves the oven cannot move
cool below the temperature of the smoldering residue, which is still relatively high.
Thus, the heating effect is also bad with this method, because the temperatures are probably
the hot gases at the point of entry can be higher than with the countercurrent method,
but also leave the oven hotter. Both procedures are therefore liable to major issues
Flaws.
Schwelgut eintritt. It has now been found that you can avoid these disadvantages and a
very good heating effect can be achieved if you use the two
procedure
combined. At a point in the oven where the smoldering is still more or less
is below the smoldering temperature, but already -dried and slightly preheated
the heating gases are introduced into the furnace at a high temperature. The gas
is now first conducted in cocurrent with the coal, whereby it cools,
while the smoldering continues to heat up. When this has reached the simmering temperature
is, the heating gas temperature has also fallen so far that the now resulting smoldering tar
is not cracked. Then the heating gas is fed to the drying and preheating zone,
where it now dries and preheats the smoldering material in countercurrent. The heating gas can
so cool down very largely, as it leaves the oven at the point where the cold
Schwelgut occurs.
Teeres hierunter leidet. This process offers the possibility of smoldering furnaces under excellent

A corresponding device is shown, for example, in the accompanying drawing. At a, the heating gas enters the smoldering furnace at a temperature of around goo to 950 ° C. The carbonized material that is inside the retort has a temperature of around 150 ° C. The heating gas washes around the retort and flows in parallel with the coal. Here it cools down while the smoldering food warms up at the same time. When the smoldering material in the lower part of the retort, the smoldering zone, has reached the smoldering temperature, the heating gas has cooled down to such an extent that the smoldering tears cannot be spoiled by cracking. At b, the smoldered residue is discharged from the furnace. At c, the heating gas, which has now been cooled down to 55o to 600 ° C, leaves the oven, is returned to the oven at d and now flows in countercurrent to the smoldering material. The smoldering material enters the smoldering retort at c and is dried and preheated by the gases flowing in the opposite direction on the outer wall of the retort. The heating gases leave the smoldering furnace at f at around 250 to 300 ° C. Overall, the heating gas has been cooled by around 600 to 700 ° C. This excellent utilization of the heat content of the heating gases is achieved without the carbon dioxide being damaged by overheating.
