ebenfalls unbekannten, technisch wertvollen Chloralkoxynaphthalinoxythiophenen gelangt,
Process for the preparation of oxythionaphthenes of the naphthalene series In the patent 558 237 the preparation of the previously unknown 'dialkoxynaphthalinoxythiophenes was described. It has now been found that the technically valuable chloroalkoxynaphthalene oxythiophenes, likewise unknown up to now, are obtained by the same process if chloroalkoxynaphthalene monosulfonic acids are subjected to the reactions of the main patent. The chloroalkoxynaphthalene monosulfonic acids used as the starting material are obtained from aminooxynaphthalene monosulfonic acids by replacing the amino group with chlorine according to S an d'm eyer and alkylating the hydroxyl group.

Preparation of 2-chloro-5-methoxynaphthalene-7-bioglycolic acid 294.6 g of the sodium salt of 2-chloro-5-methoxynaphthalene-7-sulfonic acid are treated in 45o cc of chlorobenzene with 260 g of phosphorus pentacloride for 3 hours at water bath temperature. The chlorobenzene is then distilled off in vacuo. To reduce the sulfonic acid chloride formed, it is mixed in 90 ° cc of ethyl alcohol with stirring at 60 ° in portions with 450 ° zinc dust and then gradually with 140 ° cc of io n-sulfuric acid at boiling temperature. After a reaction time of 4 hours, the alcohol is distilled off and filtered off with suction after cooling. The mercaptan is then condensed in an alkaline solution with monochloroacetic acid to form 2-chloro-5-methoxynaphthalene-7-thioglycolic acid. The free thioglycolic acid is set free from the sodium-alkaline solution by acid in a yield of about 80% and can be recrystallized from dilute acetic acid or alcohol for purification (melting point 134 ') - c. Preparation of 7-ChloY-4-methoxy-2, i-naphthoxythiophene of the formula: 282.59 of 2-chloro-5-methoxynaphthalen-7-thioglycolic acid are heated in 1200 g of chlorobenzene with zoo g of phosphorus trichloride to 85 to 90 ° for one hour. After cooling to 20 °, 265 g of aluminum chloride are gradually added with stirring and the mixture is heated to 50 ° for 15 minutes. After cooling, it is decomposed with ice and filtered. The 7-chloro-4-methoxy-2, i-naphthoxythiophene thus obtained in about 90% yield crystallizes from glacial acetic acid in small columns with a melting point of 2 ° 2 °.
