Die so angefeuchteten Gummifäden werden dann zur Zerkleinerung auf ein bekanntes Mahlwalzwerk gegeben, das glatte oder geriffelte Walzen hat, die mit gleicher oder etwas verschiedener Umfangsgeschwindigkeit (Friktion) umlaufen. Nach einmaligem Durchgang durch das Walzwerk werden die zerkleinerten Kautschukteilchen abgespült, getrocknet und, falls nötig, mit Hilfe einer Siebvorrichtung sortiert. In Abänderung des Verfahrens kann die Seifenlösung den Gummiabfällen auch erst während des Durchgangs durch das Walzwerk beigegeben werden. Es ist zwar schon vorgeschlagen worden, den Kautschuk vor dem Zermahlen zu befeuchten, hierbei ist jedoch an eine innere Befeuchtung bzw. Aufquellung des Kautschuks gedacht. Demgegenüber hat die Behandlung des Ausgangsmaterials mit Seifenlösung den Zweck, das Zusammenbacken der im Walzwerk zerquetschten Teilchen zu kleinen Gummifellen zu verhindern. Ferner muß dafür Sorge getragen werden, daß nicht eine Zerkleinerung der Kautschukabfälle bis zur Pulverform, sondern eine Zerkleinerung in Form kleiner Teile, wie z. B. Stäbchen oder Plättchen, erhalten wird. Die Menge der angewandten Seifenlösung muß daher so groß sein, daß sie auch nach Durchgang der Teilchen durch das Walzwerk die gesamte Oberfläche des Gummis zu bedecken vermag.Vulcanized rubber waste serves as the starting material, primarily Line those from rubber thread production.
