Process for the preparation of detergents, cleaning agents, wetting agents and emulsifying agents
It has been found that extremely valuable washing, cleaning, net and
Emulsifying agents get when one uses higher molecular alcohols of the fat series, such as
z. B. octadecyl alcohol (stearic alcohol), oleic alcohol, semen or wool fatty alcohols
or their halides by known methods with aromatic alcohols, phenols
etherified or naphthols and these ethers in sulfonic acids or. sulfonic acid salts
convicted. The same products can also be obtained through ether condensation
of phenolsulfonic acids with higher molecular weight fatty or wax alcohols, with under
Phenols hydroxylated hydrocarbons of the aromatic series including the polynuclear
Systems are to be understood. The products produced in this way are characterized by large
Resistance of the sulfonic acid group to hydrolyzing agents, furthermore
by resistance to hard water and are as such as in
Mixtures with soap, soap-like products etc. can be used to advantage.

It has already been proposed to subject fatty substances containing alcohols from wool fat to sulfonation in the presence of phenol. In contrast to this, however, uniform ethers are used as the starting material in the present process. In addition, it is not likely that the simultaneous sulfonation of phenol and alcohols will result in phenol ether sulfonic acids as the main product, since it is known that higher molecular weight alcohols can combine with aromatic substances, including phenols, under the influence of dehydrating agents to form nucleus-substituted condensation products. The above-described advantages of the sulfonates of the ethers of higher molecular weight fatty or wax alcohols on the one hand and aromatic phenols or aromatic alcohols on the other hand could not be inferred from the process just mentioned. Example re 735 parts of the chloride of the unsaturated alcohol obtained from the sperm oil are heated with 235 parts of phenol in the presence of rqo parts of potassium hydrate and 75o parts of 95 ° Joigem alcohol for 6 to 7 hours in the autoclave at 130 to 1q0 °, and is distilled off and washed out the reaction product is separated from the excess alcohol and the potassium chloride formed. The remaining waxy mass, which solidifies at 38 ' , is then converted into the corresponding sulfonic acid by treatment with the same amount of sulfuric acid at 3o to 46', which, as usual, is worked up and, as such or in the form of its alkali salts, is an excellent washing and cleaning agent -, wetting and emulsifying agents. EXAMPLE 2 xoo parts of phenol are sulfonated by treatment with 20 parts of sulfuric acid (monohydrate) to give a mixture of o- and p-phenolsulfonic acid. At the same time, 250 parts of cetyl are followed in exactly the same way as previously described. alcohol at 55 ' is converted into the cetylsulfuric acid ester by slowly adding ten parts of chlorosulfonic acid, which is then added to the sulfonation batch of the phenol. The mixture is then slowly warmed to zzo ° and left at this temperature for 3 hours. The reaction product, which is now clearly soluble in hot water, is worked up in the customary manner, optionally after neutralization with caustic alkalis.
