Process for the preparation of hydrogen cyanide The main patent 485 989 and the additional patent 510 407 describe processes for the preparation of hydrogen cyanide in which formamide or ammonium formate or mixtures of the two together with ammonia or such inert gases are passed over catalysts below 400 °.
Man führt
die aus indifferentem Gas und Formamid- bzw. Ammoniumformiatdampf bestehenden Gemische
It has now been found that good yields of hydrogen cyanide can also be obtained
obtained when formamide or ammonium formate or mixtures of both without ammonia
together with inert gases such as nitrogen, hydrogen, carbon oxide, water gas
etc., at temperatures above a5o ° passes over catalysts, provided one is for it
Care is taken to ensure that the reaction mixture is quickly removed from the contact space
will. One works in the manner described in the main patent, but expedient
with short contact arm and high flow velocity. You can also do this
Use temperatures of more than 400 °, advantageously of about 500 °. Man leads
the mixtures consisting of inert gas and formamide or ammonium formate vapor
in this case expediently already at temperatures of 300 ° and above in the reaction furnace
in order to dispense with the otherwise necessary strong external heating of the contact compound
close. It has been shown, surprisingly, that you can use formamide
an inert gas stream heated above the boiling point of the formamide without any
Decomposition can evaporate.
The present process offers the particular advantage that free hydrogen cyanide is obtained immediately, while when ammonia is used according to the main patent 485 989 and the additional patent 510 407, the hydrogen cyanide formed is immediately bound to ammonia.
werden zwecks Gewinnung von Kaliumeyanid durch konzentrierte Kalilauge geleitet;
durchgeleitet.
The hydrogen cyanide can be used in any manner, for. B. by cooling or by adsorption by means of active charcoal o. The like. Obtained; but it can also be collected in concentrated alkali lye for the purpose of obtaining alkali metal cyanide. In the latter case, working up the lye is particularly simple. EXAMPLE i Formamide is evaporated in a very lively nitrogen stream at about 300 ° and the vapors are passed at 500 to 55o ° through an approximately 15 cm long contact layer of finely divided, low-iron bauxite. The withdrawing vapors, consisting essentially of hydrogen cyanide, water vapor and nitrogen, are passed through concentrated potassium hydroxide solution for the purpose of obtaining potassium yanide; the residual gas can, if necessary after separation of the water, be fed back to the evaporator by means of a circulation pump after passing through a preheater or heat exchanger. EXAMPLE 2 Through an electrically heated porcelain tube with a clear width of 25 minutes and a length of 40 cm, 3 to q. mm grain size, which was impregnated with 10% caustic potash, an existing layer 10 cm long, a mixture of 27.4 g formainide and 18oo 1 nitrogen passed through within 1 hour at 52o ° internal temperature. In order to vaporize the formamide beforehand, the nitrogen is preheated to 25o to 26o °. The gases withdrawn from the contact tube are passed through sodium hydroxide solution for the purpose of determining the hydrogen cyanide formed. The yield is 88% of theory.
