abschied.Production of boric acid in the reaction of sodium tetraborate with
Sulfuric acid gives boric acid and sodium sulfate, with complete separation
of the two components requires special measures. So has z. B. tried that
Remove sodium sulfate with alcohol. More recently, attempts have also been made
to solve the problem that, after the boric acid has been separated off, the solubility
the boric acid increased by further addition of borax and then the sulfate as decahydrate
taking leave.
wertvolles Nebenprodukt. It has now been found that boric acid can be obtained free of sulfate,
if you the solution obtained after the reaction only up to the transition point of the
Sodium sulfate cools down. Since the solubility of sodium sulfate at the transition point
is slightly higher than for i oo ', while the solubility of boric acid is lower
than with ioo - ', the boric acid crystallizes out sulfate-free. Appropriate works
one here after the above reaction in the circuit, by one of a finite sulfate
saturated sulphate liquor runs out and in this sodium tetraborate and sulfuric acid
at about ioo '. The sulphate produced during the reaction separates out
as an anhydrous salt, while the boric acid initially remains in solution. To
Removal of the sulfate, e.g. B. by filtering with a filter press, the liquor
cooled to 3o to 35 ', the boric acid crystallizing out sulfate-free. The boric acid
is spun off and the lye that remains is presented for a new approach.
With this method of operation, anhydrous sodium sulfate is obtained at the same time as
valuable by-product.
The method described above therefore means compared to the
older Ver drive a significant technical advance, even more so than through
the recently discovered alkali borate stores the production of boric acid from it
Alkali borate. especially sodium tetraborate. has achieved great importance.
