Description

Process for the production of painting grounds on canvas It has been found that you \ lalleimwand for painting by means of water-soluble binders of the color pigments can prime so that the applied colors adhere well and without cracking dry on if one is to prime the canvas as a binder for the primer pigment not glue or paste and the like, but water-soluble derivatives of cellulose used and then this primer after drying with an in organic Cellulose derivative that is soluble in solvents, but poorly or insoluble in water post-treated. The second measure ensures that the one applied later Water color does not or only slightly softens the ground. While before finding of the present method painting with aqueous cellulose derivatives, e.g. B. with Methyl and ethyl cellulose in water-soluble form, can only be used on paper was succeeded by the present procedure, also because of their resilience to be able to use popular canvas as a picture carrier. The exclusive primer by means of the water-soluble cellulose derivatives turned out to be insufficient by certain colors of a very disperse nature cracked when drying. Example from a 3 to 4 percent aqueous solution of methyl cellulose with a methoxyl content of about 30% and chalk an easily spreadable paste is made and stretched as usual Painted over canvas with it. Usually a single coat is sufficient, but it can be If necessary, it can also be primed twice. After drying, this primer is applied with a 2 to 4 percent alcoholic solution of water-insoluble ethyl cellulose painted over. This layer of lacquer is absorbed by the ground and gives it no noticeable shine. The aqueous ethylcellulose paints applied to it dry without cracking in a fine, velvety matt, which corresponds to the pictures gives it its own charm.

Instead of the water-soluble methyl cellulose, it can also be used water-soluble, low-etherified ethyl cellulose or oxethyl cellulose is used will. Likewise, one is not in favor of fixing the chalk methylcellulose primer limited to the water-insoluble ethyl cellulose alone, others can also Cellulose ethers, esters and ether esters in a suitable organic solvent dissolved, used, only the strength and type of the solution, possibly spirituous, to choose appropriately.

PATENT CLAIM: Process for the production of painting grounds on canvas for painting by means of cellulose derivatives, characterized in that water-soluble cellulose derivatives are used as a binder for the primer pigment and that this primer is aftertreated with a cellulose derivative that is soluble in organic solvents but sparingly or insoluble in water.
