Beispiel 5o kg feiest gepulverte Cascara sagrada-Rinde werden mit einer Lösung von r2,5 kg neutralem weinsaurem Natrium in r 5o 1 heißem destilliertem Wasser innig gemischt und in einem emaillierten Kessel unter fortwährendem Durchrühren und so weitem Ersatz des verdampfenden Wassers, daß der Kesselinhalt dünnbreiig bleibt, 2 bis 3 Stunden auf 95 bis 981 C erwärmt. Zeigt eine Probe der Masse nur noch einen ganz schwachen, wieder ganz schnell verschwindenden, bitteren Geschmack, so ist die Entbitterung beendigt.
