Process for the production of helically wound glass rods

Such glass spirals have hitherto been produced in such a way that the glass is heated by one

Has shifted the spiral by the desired pitch.
Dorn seitlich verdichtet. This device for moving the mandrel or the one running against it
Avoid glass rod in the axial direction of the spiral and thereby the creation
To substantially simplify such spirals is the purpose of the invention, which
essentially consists in starting the glass rod on the winding mandrel
leaves without moving these two parts against each other and the automatic
Displacement of the glass rod to the spiral already wound on the mandrel
around the pitch of the spiral achieved in that between the approaching stem end
and the first turn or between two turns of the spiral a fixed,
optionally adjustable guide surface engages, which the spiral on the
Mandrel compressed on the side.
in Ansicht und im Grundriß).In the drawing, an embodiment is one for implementation
of the process suitable device illustrated in Figs. i and 2 (schematic
in elevation and in plan).
Ringen weiterzuverarbeiten. An essential feature of this device is one applied to the winding mandrel i
fixed, but in some way adjustable guide 2, which in the direction
of the course of the spiral to be produced lies or occurs in this direction.

around the mandrel i and then placed along the front of the guide plate so that
When the mandrel is rotated, the spiral moves forward automatically at the same time

This prevents the spiral from sticking to the mandrel,
that the approaching glass rod is quenched when it comes into contact with the metal mandrel
is and therefore only an easy to remove sticking of the windings to each other
occurs. Also, according to practical experience, the spirals are only made in such lengths
wound on the thorn so that the coils do not cool to such an extent that they
sit with tension on the mandrel and can hardly be pushed off from it.
