Die Kommutatorhintermaschine ist entweder als gewöhnlicher Frequenzwandler oder auch, was besonders zweckmäßig ist, als eine im Läufer mit Netzfrequenz oder annähernder Netzfrequenz erregte und im Ständer zur Aufhebung des Ankerfeldes mit einer Kompensationswicklung ausgerüstete Kommutatorhintermaschine ausgebildet.
