Fertigschleifen von Halmteilen aus porösem keramischen Material. Die bisherige Methode des Dichtschleifens von Hähnen mit Maschinen oder von Hand beruht auf der Abtragung unrunder bzw. nicht übereinstimmender Flächen von Hahngehäuse und Hahnküken durch härtere Materialien (Schleifmittel), also beispielsweise Carborundum, Korund, Sand u. dgl. Diese Methode ist bei vollkommen dichten Stoffen, wie Glas, Metall usw., absolut ausreichend und hat sich bestens bewährt. Sind dagegen die Hahnwerkstoffe zwar an sich flüssigkeitsundurchlässig, aber trotzdem mit Poren durchsetzt, so werden mit jedem neuen Anschliff Poren bloßgelegt, die zwar von allseitig dichtem Material umschlossen sind, daher im allgemeinen nicht miteinander in Verbindung stehen, die Qualität von Hähnen aus solchen Werkstoffen jedoch beeinträchtigen. Beispielsweise haben alle keramischen Massen auch noch günstigenfalls bei einer Wasseraufnahmefähigkeit von o Prozent einen absoluten Porenraum von q. bis 8 Prozent. Da sich diese Poren nach vollendetem Schliff nicht mehr auf die Dauer völlig verschließen lassen (die bisherige Methode des Einlassens mit Paraffin ist nur ein Notbehelf), wurde mit dem vorliegenden Verfahren ein neuer Weg gefunden, um die Oberfläche von Hähnen aus den geschilderten Werkstoffen vollkommen und für die Dauer zu dichten und die Qualität der Geräte ausschlaggebend zu steigern. Zu diesem Zweck wird nach fast vollendetem Dichtschleifen des Hahnes das bisherige Schleifmittel, das stets härter sein mußte als der Werkstoff, vollkommen entfernt und als Schleifmittel Massen verwendet, die aus Schleifpulver und einem zusammen mit dem Schleifpulver erhärtenden Bindemittel, z. B. Quarzpulver mit Wasserglas oder Zement mit Wasser, bestehen. Je nach der späteren Verwendung des Hahnes, beispielsweise für Säure- oder Laugenzwecke, verwendet man Säure oder laugenbeständige Kitte, wie Wasserglaskitte für Säurezwecke (Quarzpulver, Steinzeugmehl, Asbest, Feldspat usw. plus Wasserglas) und Zement für Alkalien.
