Description

Process for tanning animal hides. The invention relates to a further development of the tanning process according to patent .123 096. which consists in the fact that sulphite waste liquor esterified with aromatic sulphonic acids, optionally in a mixture with other synthetic or natural tanning agents, is applied to the hide. It has now been shown, and therein lies the invention, that lignosulfonic acid esterified with aromatic sulfonic acids, which has been separated from the sulfite cellulose waste liquor, can also be used with good results for tanning.

For example, the sulphite liquor can be mixed with acids or salts, like sodium sulfate. This precipitates the lignin sulfonic acid. These is then i-esterified immediately.

Example. 100 kg @ulftcellulose waste liquor are mixed with an aqueous solution of chlorine barium until there is no more precipitate. The precipitation is filtered off and brought into solution with sulfuric acid. The solution will then separated from the barium sulfate formed and then esterified with p-toluenesulfonic acid. This esterification takes place in that the lignin sulfonic acid with equivalent amounts p-Toluenesulfochloride is treated in alkaline solution at room temperature. The mixture is then heated on the water bath for a few hours until the reaction is complete has taken place.

The result is a brown, solid body that is easy in water, in organic Solvent is insoluble and shows very good glue-precipitating properties.
