Description

Verfahren zum Trocknen von Kohle u. dgl. Bei der Trocknung von Brennstoffen macht man, besonders bei den sehr wasserhaltigen Braunkohlen, häufig die Beobachtung, daß ein starkes Zerfallen des zu trocknenden Gutes eintritt. Diese Erscheinung hängt mit dem kolloiden Charakter des Brennstoffs zusammen. Es tritt zunächst eine ziemlich weitgehende Schwindung der äußersten Schichten ein, die dann abspringen, worauf sich derselbe Vorgang an den nächstliegenden Schichten wiederholt und so auf diese Weise ein Zerfallen der ganzen Masse erfolgt. Um dies zu vermeiden, hat man schon früher beispielsweise die Kohle längere Zeit in geschlossenen Blechkesseln unter Überdruck erhitzt. Im vorliegenden Falle wird diesem Übelstande dadurch abgeholfen, daß man dafür sorgt, daß vor dem Trocknen die kolloide Beschaffenheit des Materials weitgehendst aufgehoben wird. Dies kann durch eine Art Gerinnen der Kolloide stattfinden, wenn man die Kohlen auf höhere Temperaturen erhitzt und dabei dafür Sorge trägt, daß während dieses Vorgangs kein Wasser aus der Kohle entweicht. Dies wird dadurch erreicht, daß man erfindungsgemäß zuerst die Kohle entweder in Gegenwart von Wasserdampf oder durch diesen selbst bis zur Trocknungstemperatur erhitzt und dabei Sorge trägt, daß der Partialdruck des Wasserdampfs über dem zu trocknenden Gute so hoch ist, daß ein Entweichen des Wassers aus der Kohle während des Erhitzens nicht stattfinden kann. Dazu ist es nur notwendig, Wasserdampf von entsprechender Temperatur über die Kohle zu leiten, bis sie die zum Trocknen notwendige Temperatur angenommen hat. Erst dann, wenn die Kohle auf diese Weise einige Zeit hindurch der zum Trocknen nötigen Temperatur ausgesetzt war, wird nun durch fortschreitendes Erniedrigen des Dampfdrucks das Entweichen des Wassers aus der Kohle ermöglicht, wodurch nunmehr ein rasches Trocknen der Kohle einsetzt.
