Description

Process for the production of a high-active carbon. It is known, to produce a decolorizing carbon by adding sodium bisulfate Wood or similar material dries after standing for a long time, in the open air to 300 Heated to 500 °, boiled with water to dissolve the bisulfate, filtered and finally glows at 8oo to rooo ° in the absence of air (American patent i383755) - The effectiveness of charcoal produced in this way is, however, very poor.

The surprising observation has now been made that one is excellent active charcoal - in one operation - is obtained when wood or something else is used cellulose-containing substances impregnated with bisulphate, to temperatures above 500 ° heated and then leached. Here you also get a solution of sodium sulphide, from which the solid product can be obtained in a known manner. The advantage of the new process ordered in the simpler production method, the receipt of a valuable by-product and especially in the extraction of an excellently active one Money. -Example. Crushed pine wood is soaked with concentrated sodium bisulphate lye, dried and advantageously calcined with the exclusion of air at 600 to rooo ° for about z hours. After cooling, the coal is leached with water. When evaporating: longer very high quality sodium sulphide remains as a residue. The coal can either dried directly or after washing with hydrochloric acid. She shows an excellent Absorbance and discoloration capacity.
