Es sind solche Verdünnungsmittel bekannt, die aus Harz- bzw. v egetabilen Produkten bestehen, wie z. B. Damarlack, Terpentin, Lavendelöl, Rosmarinöl, Spiköl, Nelkenöl, Kopaivaöl, Leinöl u. dgl. Bei allen diesen vegetabilen Ölen oder bei Mischungen dieser vegetabilen Öle ergab sich aber der Mißstand, daß die Farbschicht. auf dem Bilde nach vollständiger Austrocknung ein Netz von kleinen Rissen bekam, welches sich über das ganze Bild ausbreitete, so daß nicht nur die Wirkung des Bildes dadurch beeinträchtigt wurde, sondern auch die Bindung der Farben eine unzulängliche war, da durch diese kleinen Risse die Luft und vor allen Dingen Licht und Sonnenstrahlen eindringen und zersetzend auf die Farbe wirken.Diluents for pasty oil paints of all kinds. Durch diese Beimengung des Lebertrans oder der Lebertranemulsion wird die Farbschicht gebunden und bleibt elastisch, so daß keinerlei Risse entstehen, das Bild in seiner Wirkung nicht leidet. und auch der Einwirkung von Luft, Licht und Sonne bedeutend mehr Widerstand entgegengestellt ist. Die Beimengung von Lebertran bewirkt also, daß die Farbschicht dauernd ein einziges nicht sprödes, sondern biegsames Ganzes bleibt, welches bei normaler Beanspruchung niemals Brüche bekommen kann. Die Herstellung eines solchen Verdünnungsmittels geschieht beispielsweise in folgender Mischung. Es werden: 6o Teile Damarlack, 30 - Terpentin, - gebleichtes Leinöl und 5 - reine Lebertranemulsion zusammengemischt und gut vermengt.
