Description
Process for sizing fibers. Finishing process under Use of solutions of an inorganic or organic nature are known but various disadvantages. So shows the treatment of fibrous materials with, inorganic Solutions like z-. B. of zinc chloride or magnesium chlorine, directly dangerous influences on vegetable fibers, while solutions of salts of alkali metals and alkaline earth metals, such as B. table salt, Glauber's salt, Epsom salt, etc., in their capacity to make soap Salting out or decomposing solutions have the disadvantage that they do not can be used in combination with soaps. Treatment with solutions of organic substances, such as B. Glvcerin, Glyoose and Sugar, is unpleasant and uneconomical, since these solutions quickly become moldy and glycerine is very expensive and is uncomfortable to work with glucose.
Attempts have been made many times to remedy these disadvantages. After this The method according to the invention does this by using urea-containing Solutions.
Treatment with urea, which is readily soluble, colorless, somewhat hygroscopic, has a neutral reaction and is non-toxic, gives the fiber a soft, damp grip. The finish achieved in this way is, since urea, indecomposable up to 16o ° is good heat-resistant and reduces the fire hazard of fiber materials. The method for finishing with urea solution has the advantage that it is with any kind of soap, combined in any amount, can be used. Urea tolerates deal with all of them in the last finishing baths for vegetable and animal fibers applicable chemicals. Treatment with urea is economically cheaper as z. B. the one with glycerine. Example r. May; sets a finishing liquid, as is customary for cotton fabrics and in a manner known per se from starch or similar bodies can be prepared at any stage of the preparation 5 kg of urea are added per roo kg and the fabric is finished with it. Example 2. One dyes vegetable or animal fibers in the usual way and add to the final treatment bath before drying, an addition of 2 to 5 percent urea to the thread liquid.
