Nach Beendigung des Toastvorganges wird diese Verriegelung wieder mechanisch oder elektromagnetisch geöffnet. (Das Öffnen dieser Verriegelung kann aus Sicherheitsgründen auch vor Beendigung des Toastvorganges manuell mittels eines nach außen geführten Griffes geschehen). Entscheidend für die Qualität des Toastens ist die Heizleistung, die an das Toastgut gebracht wird. Dies geschieht auf verschiedene Weise, zum Beispiel durch ein Zeitglied, das den oben beschriebenen Brotheber nach dem Toastvorgang automatisch entriegelt.
