The covering element essentially consists of a carrier substrate 10 , which is provided on its surface with a continuous layer of granulate particles made of translucent plastic or synthetic glass. The granulate particles 14 contain a fluorescent substance which can be excited by short-wave light or UV light to emit fluorescent light. The components according to the invention accordingly have a lighting and signaling function with a particular decorative effect.
