Description
Preparation of leather for the application of varnishes made from cellulose esters. It is well known that cellulose ester coatings adhere only very unsatisfactorily to fatty materials Leather. When folding such a patent leather, the cellulose ester coatings come off very easily off the leather and can be - especially hot @@ use of acetyl cellulose - peel off almost completely as a skin.
It has now been found that leather and, in particular, can also be used Very firmly adhering lacquers made from cellulose esters are obtained from fatty leather if the leather is treated with a softening agent before the cellulose ester varnish is applied. or gelling agents impregnated for cellulose esters. More expedient - «- turns around one offers these means in the form of suitable solutions, so that they are as deep as possible in the Leather can penetrate. Such solutions can optionally contain additions of others Substances, even small amounts of cellulose ester, but only so large may be that they do not allow the softening agent to penetrate the leather impede. Of softening and gelatinizing agents, for example polymer -ethylene acetoacetic ester, benzvlacetyl-o-toluidine, tricresyl phosphate, Phthalic acid dimethyl ester and others. come into use. You can also use these impregnating agents Adding dyes to create a well-covering substrate at the same time obtain. Example: On the side to be painted on a black-colored chrome leather becomes a: X1 mixture, consisting of .4o parts by weight of polymeric methylene acetoacetic ester, 60 parts by weight of alcohol and 10 parts by weight of carbon black, applied and this treatment repeated if necessary.
Depending on the desired effect, colorless can be applied to this primer or colored cellulose ester lacquers. for example a varnish consisting of i o parts by weight of acetyl cellulose, 2o parts by weight of polymeric methylene acetoacetic ester, 49 parts by weight of ethylene chlorohydrin, 21 parts by weight of water. One can do the impregnation also in: make the chrome leather in the solution of softening or gelatinizing agents immersed and after evaporation of the diluent applies a suitable cellulose ester lacquer to the impregnated leather.
