Auf der Vorderseite des Bügels ist ein Drücker G angebracht, welcher durch eine Feder g nach unten geprefst wird. Zwischen der Scheibe E und dem Ansatz F befindet sich eine Platte H, welche mit einem eigentümlich gestalteten Schlitz und an ihrem oberen Ende mit einem nach rückwärts vorspringenden Ansatz h versehen ist, welcher über die Scheibe E reicht, an deren Peripherie ein Vorsprung e sich befindet. Am unteren Ende der Platte H ist ein Rohr K befestigt, welches frei in einem Knopf k gleiten kann, der an einem Zapfen am unteren Theile der Vorderseite des Bügels sich hin- und herdrehen kann. Die nun sich aufwärts bewegende Nadel bildet mit ihrem Haken eine Schleife und zieht dieselbe durch das Zeug und durch die vorher gemachte Schleife, welche sich nun auf der oberen Seite des Zeuges befindet. Die Nadel setzt ihre Bewegung aufwärts fort und nimmt die neue Schleife mit in das Rohr K; beginnt die Nadel nun ihre nächste Bewegung abwärts, so stöfst der an der Scheibe E befindliche ■ Vorsprung gegen das an der Platte H sitzende Stück h, wodurch die Platte H gehoben wird und das Rohr K die Schleife freigiebt, so dafs die Nadel wieder nieder- und durch das Zeug geht und die eben gebildete Schleife auf dem Zeuge zurückläfst. Während die Nadel N und das Rohr K diese verticalen Bewegungen machen, drehen sie sich gleichzeitig am Zapfen k und rückt so die im Zeuge sitzende Nadel letzteres bei jeder Umdrehung der Welle D um eine Stichlänge vorwärts. Die Scheibe E und der Schlitz in der Platte H sind so gestaltet, dafs, wenn die Nadel anfängt, eine Schleife durch das Zeug nach oben zu ziehen, das Rohr K sich abwärts bewegt hat, so dafs es mit seiner unteren Oeffnung auf dem Zeuge aufliegt und verhindert, dafs das Zeug von dem Haken der Nadel mit aufwärts gezogen wird. Durch die fortgesetzte Umdrehung der Welle D bildet die Nadel eine Schleife nach der anderen und wird jede Schleife durch die vorher gemachte Schleife aufwärts gezogen; gleichzeitig wird das Zeug um einen gewissen Betrag vorwärts geschoben, so dafs diese auf einander folgenden Schleifen auf der Oberfläche des Zeuges eine Reihe von Kettenstichen bilden, die irgend einem vorgelegten Muster entsprechen. Die Feder S hält, während sie den Bewegungen des Armes M und der Nadel N nachgiebt, den Faden etwas gespannt, so dafs jedesmal, wenn eine Schleife von der Nadel aufwärts gezogen, die vorher gemachte Schleife dann festgezogen wird. Gewöhnlich genügen bei zum Sticken dienenden Nähmaschinen solche Vorrichtungen, die einer bestimmten Stichlänge entsprechen, letztere also nicht geändert wird. Soll dies aber doch der Fall sein, so wird der Zapfen von k nicht fest, sondern in einem am Bügel des Rahmens angebrachten Schlitze mittelst einer Klemmschraube beweglich angeordnet, so dafs derselbe etwas tiefer oder höher gestellt werden kann. Wird k niedriger gestellt, so nimmt die seitliche Bewegung der Nadel, während sie sich in dem Zeuge befindet, ab und der Stich wird folglich kürzer.
