Description
Process for the production of potash nitrate from crude potash salts according to patent 335819. Patent 374096 describes a process for the production of potash nitrate from crude potash salts, in which a crude salt solution with a certain KCl / MgSOh ratio is previously obtained from the sulphate-containing potash salts. The exact setting and obtaining of such a solution causes considerable operational difficulties.
The following must be observed: The salts that are used, potassium chlorine and magnesium sulfate, are required per se in exactly the stoichiometric ratio. In the separation of the converted magnesium chloride achieved by the evaporation of the caustic solution a certain amount of potassium chloride in the form of double salt is added to the lye cycle (KCl / MgC12 6 H20) removed. Before crystallization. the hot nitric solution this amount of KCl must be returned to the lye. In this way it happens that the potassium chloride is actually in an over-equivalent ratio to the magnesium sulphate must enter. The excess of potassium chloride is found every time during the decomposition of the excreted double salt back.
It was pointed out earlier that the implementation of magnesia nitrate with potassium chloride to potassium nitrate also takes place in the cold. On this realization is based on the present. Working method for the automatic achievement of always in the same Wise compound mother liquors.
If you would have an excess of potassium chloride in the hot nitric solution that goes so far that it exceeds the available magnesium tritrate, Thus, in addition to potassium nitrate, potassium chloride would also precipitate during crystallization. In the opposite case, when the introduced potassium chloride is used for conversion available magnesia nitrate would be in the mother liquor the magnesium nitrate accumulate more and more and eventually lead to complications in * give cause for evaporation. So it depends on the mother liquor like that adjust that from it always the entire available magnesium: nitrate is used for the conversion. The complete conversion can be done once achieve this by always having the same setting for the hot saltpeter solution granted. However, since the hot nitric solution is not a saturated lye, the by itself always shows a constant composition, prepares compliance with the constant composition great difficulties. One works therefore as follows: The nitric mother liquor is after crystallization in cold Conditions brought together again with potassium chloride. If the mother liquor at this Method of operation still contains magnesium nitrate, which can still be converted, so take the lye removes chlorine from the existing potassium chloride and converts the former into potassium nitrate around. If the mother liquor already shows a constant composition, then that remains Potassium chlorine unchanged.
It is best to proceed in such a way that when preparing the hot saltpeter solution leaves the potassium chloride somewhat in the minority. One poses So for example the crude salt solution in an approximately stoichiometric ratio, without the potassium chloride increases. take into account which is the lye cycle during evaporation is withdrawn. The mother liquor is then expediently allowed to run through a cover vessel, which is filled with the chlorine potassium that is formed when the double salt is broken down the final nitric liquor or other MgCla-containing alkalis results. The contents of the cover vessel is then continuously checked for chlorine so that the vessel is switched off can when the conversion to KNOg is finished. In this way one achieves with simple Medium and little supervision, nitric mother liquors always have the same composition. The KalisaP obtained in the cover vessel or in the agitator tank during the caustic correction peter is combined with the product obtained in the crystallization. He is especially pure if the submitted potassium chloride did not contain any NaC1.
Another advantage of the working method described here is that that the mother; due to the negative heat of dissolution of the KCl still lye considerably be cooled further than otherwise achievable with crystallization without cooling devices is. This brings with it a better utilization of the lye.
