Description
Process for the production of purified cellulose for chemical purposes and for the production of special papers. The manufacture of purified cellulose from commercial cellulose is made in different ways depending on the intended use. For the viscose process, sulphite cellulose is bleached using the dipping and pressing method soaked with 18 percent caustic soda and then thrown off so far or squeezed out so that two to three parts of sodium hydroxide solution are added to one part of cellulose contains.
The mercerization of cellulose with caustic alkalis was also carried out in pan mills or kneaders. The end product then represents a doughy, pretty much dry white magma (cf. Francis J. G. Baltzer, Paris, »Kunststoffe« 11. P. 43, 19r2). For some purposes, e.g. B. for viscose production, it is in. This Case not very suitable. Too much mechanical stress and temperature increase The probable causes are in the bulk during manufacture.
The mercerization of cellulose by caustic alkalis is finally also carried out at elevated temperature and under pressure in spherical boilers or tumble boilers, to increase the intended cleansing effect.
Schwalbe, »Chemie der Zellulose«, S. 165, 1g18).In all of these working processes, however, no purified cellulose is produced. The alkali amounts used are too small for this, and also prevent increased amounts . Temperatures the formation of alkali celluloses or ge purified celluloses (cf. Schwalbe, "Chemie der Zellulose", p. 165, 1g18).
It has now been found that purified cellulose from particularly good properties that can be used for chemical purposes and for the manufacture of Special papers are suitable if you proceed as follows Depending on the intended use cellulose is treated at normal temperature with caustic alkali solutions of different strengths with high consistency in spherical boilers, tumble boilers or rotating kettles. the mechanical processing of the cellulose is done to a large extent by the high Dead weight of the moist, dry substance mass. The caustic alkali is in the form of 1o- Up to 3% sodium hydroxide solution applied in such an amount that the mass is moist dry remains, so does not float in liquid lye.
This cold process achieves the following advantages: The fibers of the entire pulp mass are evenly penetrated by the caustic alkali, and the alkalization of the pulp takes place much milder and more evenly than with the previously usual process without increasing the temperature. The process is also carried out with great care for the cellulose fibers, which results in higher exploitation. The movement of the wet mass plays an important role here. The alkali cellulose does not become greasy.
Derart gereinigte Zellulose läßt sich infolge ihrer Reinheit mit wenig Bleichmitteln bereits vollständig ausbleichen.Cellulose purified in this way can be cleaned with little due to its purity Bleach already completely bleach.
By changing working conditions, e.g. B. the length of work or by adding material while working after sampling, any can desired Degree of mercerization and mechanical processing can be achieved.
Compared to the cold dipping and squeezing process, it offers purified Cellulose in the processing of chemical products has the advantage of being defibrated the press cake is no longer necessary and a wool-like cellulose with great absorbency is won.
Should such purified cellulose be processed on raw material for special papers the required washing out with water with extensive alkali recovery can be carried out can already be carried out in the mercerization kettle.
The purified unbleached cellulose obtained by the cold process is carefully neutralized after washing with water and diluted acids, bleached, washed again and optionally in paper form and paper more desirable Goodness convicted.
It has finally been found that the cold treatment in surprising Measures are accelerated and promoted while saving material if you take them below Increases the pressure. You can do the latter by forcing in air or indifferent Generate gases. In certain cases of the manufacture of paper raw material it is too expedient to produce the pressure increase with reducing gases.
