Abstract

The tile is of heat-insulating material, each main tile (10) having a network of intersecting channels (24,26) in its underside and communicating with those in adjacent tiles, ventilating the space between the supporting surface and the tiles and preventing condensation. It has keys by which it locks into engagement with the adjacent tiles in the lengthwise and transverse rows. Water-deflecting screens (46,48) are provided on the top surface (12), preventing penetration by a driving rain of the joints between adjacent tiles, while masked passages aid drainage of the rainwater. Ridge tiles also prevent water from reaching the supporting surface, and allow free air circulation between it and the tiles.
