Abstract

A device for removing the sheath of optical fibres in which two jaws (1, 2) which are connected to one another by means of articulation shafts form a folding-up hollow element (10) for receiving the optical fibre (5) and each jaw (1, 2) has on the inside a blade (6, 7) for peeling off the sheath (11) from the optical fibre (5). <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a device for removing the Fiber cladding of glass fibers.

As is known, the glass fibers are combined to form a fiber bundle captured and for protection against mechanical damage in flex iblen metal or plastic hoses stored. By Zer Part of the fiber bundle is obtained from the glass fiber or Light guide. Your coat, made up of a few thousandths Millimeter thick glass with low refractive index must be removed as a light guide at the connection points will. Knives or similar tools have previously been used for this. They had the disadvantage that they didn't either removed completely enough or mechanically damaged.

The object of the invention is to overcome this disadvantage remove. She suggests for the removal of the coat from Glass fiber to use a device that has the glass fiber in the area of the jacket to be removed and similar to a peel the coat while protecting the glass as much as possible fiber removed.

To solve this task, a device according to the preamble of Claim 1 proposed, which in accordance with the invention Drawing part of claim 1 features mentioned.

Advantageous developments of the invention are in the Unteran sayings described.

Es zeigtIn the drawing, an embodiment of the invention is again given. It shows

The device according to the invention consists of the jaws 1, 2 , which have a partially cylindrical shape in cross section and are pivotally connected to one another on hinges 3, 4 on adjacent longitudinal sides, so that they can be folded into a hollow body. The resulting cavity 10 serves to receive the glass fiber 5 , the jacket 11 of which is to be removed. For this purpose, the device has on one upper end face of the jaws 1, 2 knives 6, 7 , which are arranged on springs 8, 9 on the inside of the jaws 1, 2 so that they are angled downwards so that their cutting edges are exactly opposite one another with the result that the knives 6, 7 or their cutting edges in the folded state of the jaws 1, 2 stir.

The device shown in the working position in FIG. 3 shows the glass fiber 5 inserted into the cavity 10 between the jaws 1, 2 and acted upon by the cutting edges of the knives 6, 7 with the jacket 11 separated and already partially peeled off. By pulling off the device from the glass fiber 5 and possibly rotating the device around the fiber core, the total exposure of the glass fiber 5 from its jacket 11 is then carried out. The knives 6, 7 are pressed lightly by the springs 8, 9 but at the same time also resiliently onto the glass fiber 5 . In this way, with regard to the knife effect, there is not a classic cutting process, but more a peeling process, which is decisive for a harmless removal of the jacket 11 from the glass fiber 5 .
