Der in Fig. 1 im Querschnitt gezeigte Wärmetauscher 1 ist als Ladeluftkühler an die Luftzuführung 2 zum zylinderkopf einer Brennkraftmaschine angeschlossen. Der Ladeluftkühler ist von einem Gehäuse 3 umschlossen, das infolge einer mittigen Biegung 4 einen im wesentlichen U-förmigen Querschnitt aufweist, wobei an den einen Schenkel 5 der U-Form der Eintritt der Ladeluft in den Kühler durch einen Stutzen 6 erfolgt. Ein am anderen Schenkel 7 des Kühlers sitzender Stutzen 8 führt die gekühlte Ladeluft zur Brennkraftmaschine. Als wesentliches Tragelement des Ladeluftkühlers 1 dient der Stutzen 8, der sehr kräftig ausgebildet ist und über einen Flansch 9 mit der Luftzuführung 2 verschraubt ist. Ein das Gehäuse 3 bildender doppelwandiger Mantel 10 ist insgesamt in Sandwich-Bauweise ausgeführt und zweckmäßig aus zwei für sich U-förmigen Schalen zusammengefügt. Im Gehäuse 3 des Ladeluftkühlers 1 befindet sich in jedem der Schenkel 5 und 6 je eine Hälfte eines zweiteiligen Kühlerblockes 11, 12, die ebenfalls in Sandwich-Bauweise ausgeführt sind. Die dabei sowohl im Gehäusemantel 1 als auch in den Kühlerblöcken 11 und 12 verbleibenden durchgehenden Hohlräume 14 sind für den Durchtritt des Kühlmittels vorgesehen, welches somit quer zur Ladeluft den Kühler durchströmt. Ein im Strömungsverlauf zwischen den beiden Kühlerblöcken 11 und 12 im Innern der Biegung 4 befindlicher freier Raum 15 dient als Umlenkraum für die den Kühler durchströmende Ladeluft. Im Umlenkraum 15 können bei Bedarf zusätzlich Leitbleche und/oder vom Kühlmittel durchströmte Kühlrippen angeordnet sein.
