Um diesen Übelstand zu beseitigen, hat man konzentrisch zur Messerwalze einen Schuh angeordnet, der um die Walzenachse drehbar gelagert ist, mit Hilfe dessen die Stoffzufuhr geregelt oder auch ganz abgesperrt werden soll. Eine vollständige Absperrung ist mit dieser Einrichtung aber nicht möglich, weil durch die Form des Schuhes bedingt ist, daß derselbe bei seiner Verstellung lediglich: an den Wänden des Troges schleifen kann, wodurch an diesen Stellen unbedingt eine Trennung des Wassers vom Stoffe stattfinden wird, was wiederum für die Holländerarbeit von großem Nachteil ist.
