Description
Acetylene lamp with development water supplied through a wick. The invention relates to an acetylene lamp in which the water supply to the carbide through the suction of one or more wicks takes place through into the carbide container built-in, perforated tubes come into effect, and is characterized by that the mouth of the wick guide is covered by a suction cap, for the purpose of about the supply of moisture to the carbide and, consequently, the development of gas through stronger or to be able to regulate less pressing of the suction wick against the suction cap.
This facility causes a sudden evolution of acetylene gas and thus any risk of explosion avoided, while an adjustable, uniform one Luminous intensity with absolute odorless lamp and significant carbide savings achieved.
In the drawing, the acetylene lamp in Figs. I and 2 is in two vertical sections rotated by a right angle against each other.
The ring ii carrying the cylindrical carbide container io is screwed into the pedestal g serving as a water container and sealed by means of the sealing ring 12. The inner distribution pipe 1q provided with holes 13 is concentric with the carbide container io on the ring ii. put on. The flat suction wire 17 is pulled through the bore 1g of the ring ii and through a wick housing 16 fastened on the same. The suction cap 18 is slipped over the housing 16 and held on it by means of the ring ig. The suction wick 17 can be pushed up and down by means of the little wheel 2o, the spindle of which is carefully sealed by a small stuffing box 21. The lid 23, which is the upper end of the inner distribution pipe 1q, is threaded onto the carbide container io. includes and carries the burner 24, screwed.
The procedure for starting up the lamp is as follows: After filling the carbide container io and the distribution pipe 1q. With carbide, the wick 17 is pushed up by means of the small wheel 20 until it hits the suction cap 18, whereupon the water enters the suction cap 18 as a result of the capillary action. As a result, the first in the distribution pipe 1q. The existing carbide decomposes and the resulting lime precipitate fills the distribution pipe 1q, permeated with moisture in powder form. at. This precipitate continues to attract moisture from the suction cap 18 and communicates it through the holes 13 to the carbide in the container, whereupon this too, as shown in FIG. 2, disintegrates in powder form and acetylene gas is evolved in the container, which is returned through the holes 13 in the distribution pipe 1q. and reaches the burner 24. If the flame is to be reduced in size, it is sufficient to pull the suction wick 17 down a little by means of the small wheel 2o. At the upper end of the suction wick 17, the transverse threads of the fabric are removed as shown, so that when the suction wick is pushed down a little, only individual longitudinal threads of the same conduct the moisture to the suction cap 18 and the gas development is consequently less. By pulling down the suction wick 17 completely, the light will go out completely after a short time. It is advisable to let the gases still in the lamp burn off completely during this process. If there is still undecomposed carbide in the lamp, it can be put back into operation immediately by pulling open the suction wick 17. When the lamp is completely burned out, the cover 23 is unscrewed, the distribution pipe 14 is pulled out and the lime dust is removed. Care must be taken that both the container 10 and the distribution tube 14 are completely dry before the lamp is restarted. The distribution pipe 14 prevents the direct action of the larger amount of carbide and lime dust located in the container 10, which could impair the suction power of the suction cap 18 due to its clogging. For this reason, only a small amount of calcium carbide is filled into the distribution pipe 14 when it is started up, for example only 10 grams for a table lamp of medium size, while the container 10 can be filled with carbide to over half its height.
