Abstract

The toning table for the muscles of the spine and back and for the chest is covered on its surface with a 3 mm PVC sheet inserted in a metal tensioning frame. This tensioning frame is adjustable in respect of height and depth for regulating the pressure resting upon it. The individual lies with his back on the sheet, so that the back is curved (as in a hammock). The profiled rollers then roll underneath, the rollers being driven by an electric motor in lateral rails in two bicycle chain circles. The softness of the PVC sheet transmits the pressure imparted by the support and the roller onto the body in a pleasant way. This brings about a pleasant massaging effect. At the same time, the curved roller forces the spine and and dorsal joints in another curved direction (chest opening). On passage of the profiled roller the spine is also bent. The profiles on the rollers are necessary so that the blood in the body is circulated in one direction and distributed in the grooves. The rollers may be adapted to required shapes (as in orthopaedics).
