Description
Closing compound for canning jars and method for closing off Canning jars by means of this mass. The invention relates to a sealing compound for canning jars and similar vessels as well as a method for locking canning jars, which are subjected to a canning process. While with the known canning process rubber rings are generally used as sealing means for the lids of the canning jars are used, the essence of the invention applied for lies in a place of Rubber rings as a means of closure. using putty, which in the heated state The end edge of the lid is to be spread on. From those for the in question Purpose already proposed differentiates gutta-percha kitten and other kittens the putty forming the subject of the invention on the one hand by its new Composition and, on the other hand, by the fact that they are perfectly preserved the food guaranteed. The known putties either tolerate only one low temperature, so that the lid provided with the sealing compound also cooks is not possible or cannot be painted onto the edge of the lid. on the other hand it was also when using the previously proposed for the purpose in question Putty not possible to cook the vessels without a spring-loaded lid and> to use any lid shape. Due to the need for springs to be pressed on using the lid during the cooking process has the disadvantage that that the air contained in the vessels cannot completely escape, so that there is always air left in the fully cooked vessel; which may be because of Their nitrogen content can cause the cooked food to decompose.
The melting putties previously known for other purposes are also suitable not for the present purpose, as they usually only take place at normal temperature become solid and also cannot be used on damp surfaces, such as this is the case with a closing compound according to the invention.
The previously known melting putties therefore do not have the same Composition such as a sealing compound according to the invention, which is melted together of about 50 parts by weight of coal tar pitch from which all heavy and light oils are removed are, _15 parts by weight of hard mineral pitch and 2o parts by weight of cleaned gypsum is obtained. The mineral hard pitch used is so-called. Petroleum pitch, which is meltable at 100 ° C and is generally available for sale as a commodity. The usage such a sealing compound offers a guarantee of perfect preservation of the cooked meals, as they are heated to 100 ° C during the canning process can; without it flowing away, can also be used on damp surfaces can and already solid a few degrees below the boiling point, so that the Lid can be pressed against the vessel for a very short time after the cooking process and then the sealing compound creates a completely airtight seal.
When using a final compound after the invention the procedure is such that the closure lid before the cooking process with the sealing compound be coated or lids that have already been prepared in this way are used. The one like that with the lid provided with the sealing compound on its sealing edge, is put on the cold one Put on the canning jar, with this then without it being pressed by springs, heated to 100 ° C and then immediately after removing the jar from the water or steam bath, for example, pressed firmly with the help of a cloth, which means that the lid can be removed after the canning jar has cooled down very slightly adheres firmly and airtight to the jar.
Such a method for closing the jars is guaranteed a reliable one. and proper preservation of food by having at the cooking process all-air and thus also the nitrogen from the canning jar is driven out and the air does not return after the cooking process is finished There is time to penetrate the canning jar again and thereby the durability affecting the canned food.
