Process for melting high melting point metal, e.g. B. tungsten. When melting metals with a very high melting point, such as. B. tungsten, it is difficult to get the molten: metal in a pure state, because crucibles made of graphite or carbon have to be used, which when heated to the melting temperature of the metal give off this carbon, which forms bonds with the melted material. So 'forms z. B. When melting tungsten in a carbon or graphite crucible due to the absorption of carbon, tungsten carbide. Contamination of tungsten by 0.5 to z percent carbon is harmless for normal technical purposes. However, it must be avoided if it is important to use the metal as chemically pure as possible.
Man muß ihn also in einen
For this purpose, according to the invention, a crucible from the
used to melt metal. However, especially when the heating of the
Crucible from the outside. z. B. takes place through the surrounding glow tube of an electric furnace,
the crucible itself finally also for melting. So you have to put it in one
Put outer crucibles made of graphite or carbon, which in turn is the prerequisite
for contamination of the metal is given.
Graphittiegel Rechnung. To avoid contamination anyway; is now between the
Metal crucible and the graphite crucible a layer of an oxide of the crucible metal,
z. B. of wollramic acid (W03). It is well known in the art
and also scientifically founded fact that by adding a corresponding
Amount, e.g. B. 3 to 5 percent tungstic acid to the tungsten to be melted, the tungstic acid
decomposes during carbide formation, with the oxygen in the acid dissolving with the
released carbon it combines carbide to carbon dioxide and carbonic acid while
the tungsten remains pure. The transformation takes place according to the known
Process 3C + 22W03 = 3C02 + aW. It thus becomes an impurity in the presence of tungsten oxide
of the molten tungsten metal avoided by carbide. This fact bears out
the new arrangement by, the intermediate layer of tungsten oxide between metal and
Graphite crucible invoice.
darin enthaltenenWolfram
An embodiment of a device for carrying out the new method is shown in the drawing. A crucible a made of tungsten is inserted into a carbon or graphite crucible t with a clearance of about a to 5 mm. In the space is by pounding. a layer of tungamic acid was introduced. There is an opening q in the bottom of the tungsten crucible; which can be closed by a tungsten plug r. A tube f adjoins the opening and protrudes into the lower electrode b. The intermediate layer of tungstic acid binds the carbon of the crucible t released during the relatively short annealing process, which lasts a few minutes, before it can reach the tungsten crucible a. The tie-Gel A goes (the therein contained tungsten flows even in melt flow through. The molten metal after it is finally blown also the plug, into the tube F from where it, because the electrode is cooled b, a rapid cooling learns.
