Saddle pad with integrated padding and anti-slip protection

In dressage and show jumping, saddle pads made of multi-layered quilted textiles, felt or synthetic fur are usually used as a balancing layer between the saddle and the horse.

Pads made of foam and cellular rubber, fur or gel cushions are used as additional padding.

Many riders use 2 or 3 different pads at the same time to achieve sufficient padding between the saddle and the horse.

The layer thickness can be up to 5 cm or more, which means that the rider sits very high above the horse and is no longer able to give correct weight aids.

This thick layer also means that the correct fit of the saddle is no longer guaranteed.

Saddling is particularly difficult for smaller people and children and has the disadvantage that the layers can slip against each other and/or form folds when saddling and also when riding. Pressure points would be the result.

Conventional foam and cellular rubber pads also have the disadvantage that they are cut straight and only adapt to the shape of the back when pressure is applied.

This means you press the center seam of the conventional saddle pad directly onto the horse’s spine and exert pressure there.

In this way, the freedom of the spine, its relief and ventilation will be impaired.

The invention specified in the protection claim is based on the concern to create a saddle pad that visually meets the requirements of a tournament rider and at the same time ensures an optimal fit, padding, non-slip properties, freedom of the spine and ventilation of the horse's back.

The problem was solved as follows:

A saddle pad (1) with a conventional appearance, material and manufacturing technique has been split in the middle. It therefore consists of two halves and no longer has an annoying, bulging center seam.

The two halves are connected by a specially cut foam rubber pad (2) with ventilation holes, which corresponds to the main contact surface of the saddle.

The pad is sewn or attached to the saddle pad with Velcro so that the two halves of the blanket remain about 3-4 cm apart in the middle.

Since there is no longer a central seam in the spine area and the foam rubber application has holes in the middle, an air channel is created above the spine, which enables optimal back ventilation.

The sturdy surface of the foam rubber prevents the pad from slipping while riding.

Creases in the different layers and the resulting saddle pressure are prevented and handling the blanket when saddling is made much easier.

The use of 2 or more bases is no longer necessary.

The entire compensation layer between the saddle and the horse is thinner (only about 1 to 2 cm). This means that the rider sits closer to the horse and his weight aids are passed on to the horse more quickly and easily.
