The application relates to a cover for loading spaces and trunks, in particular in motor vehicles.

Such cargo area covers are available in a variety of forms on the market. Usually, a roll-up mechanism for this cargo area cover is attached to the body of station wagons behind the backrest of the rear seat and the cover is pulled backwards so that it can be fixed above the wheel arch. However, this design makes it necessary to develop and produce different cargo area covers depending on the vehicle type. Such systems are well known from applications EP 0 524 397 A1, EP 0 258 823 A1, EP 0 234 497 B1, and others.

In vehicles where the rear seat can be completely or partially removed, there is the problem that the area of the cargo area in front of the roll-up mechanism cannot be covered. Recently, vehicles have become available on the market where not only the rear seat can be removed, but even the passenger seat can be removed.

There are no practical solutions available on the market to safely cover the resulting loading space in all conditions (rear seat installed, rear seat folded down, rear seat partially dismantled, rear seat completely dismantled and rear seat + passenger seat dismantled).

The invention relates to a variable loading area cover that is suitable for all of these very different applications. An embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawings and explained in more detail in the following description.

Figure 1 shows in a very simplified form the longitudinal section through a passenger car with the proposed load compartment cover.

The variable loading area cover 10 consists of the individual components roll-up mechanism 11, tarpaulin 12 and suspension device 13.

The rolling mechanism 11 is firmly connected to the tailgate 14 of the vehicle. This ensures that the loading area cover does not have to be removed when loading and unloading the vehicle.

Figure 2 shows a basic longitudinal section through the vehicle with the tailgate 14 open. The proposed arrangement of the rolling mechanism 11 and the suspension device 13 ensures that when the tailgate is opened, access to the loading area is guaranteed, despite the loading area cover being fitted. With the help of the rolling mechanism 11, the different lengths when the tailgate is closed and open are automatically compensated.

Figure 3 shows the use of the cargo area cover for very different cargo area sizes. By dividing the cover into two individual strips, it is possible to create different cover lengths on the left and right sides of the vehicle. By attaching various attachment devices 13 to the rear seat, the front seats and also the dashboard on the passenger side, it is possible to attach the cover to the vehicle in the appropriate usable length. The following states are shown:

Figure 4 shows a very simplified perspective view of the rolling mechanism. Since the rolling mechanism 11 is attached to the rear hatch of the vehicle and the rear hatch of a vehicle is always somewhat narrower than the passenger compartment, a tarpaulin 12 with a constant width would result in an unprotected strip to the right and left of the tarpaulin. To reliably prevent this, it is proposed to use a tarpaulin 12 adapted to the width of the passenger compartment. Since this web width is now greater than the width of the rolling mechanism, it is proposed to fold the protruding tarpaulin strip underneath the rest of the tarpaulin using a three-dimensionally deformed guide plate 15. The guide plate is designed in such a way that when the tarpaulin 12 is unrolled from the rolling mechanism 11, the tarpaulin doubling previously created during winding is safely unfolded into the desired position.
