Beschreibung ··Description ··
The invention relates to a standing umbrella that can be opened and closed and consists of a weather protection made of flexible material, a mast, a base and devices for carrying and tensioning the weather protection. These umbrellas are used in a variety of ways in the garden, in restaurants, as market umbrellas or for advertising purposes.
In known umbrellas of the above type, the weather protection rests on spread tension rods when opened, which are hinged to the upper end of the mast. Support rods, which are hinged to a rod ring that can move on the mast, spread the tension rods. The umbrella is opened by lifting the rod ring, and the weather protection is tensioned by exerting an increased vertical force on the rod ring, which must be locked in the final position on the mast. Poles and mast can usually be made from solid material or from tubes. There are special designs that require the mast to be made as a tube. The mast cross-section is usually round.
The disadvantage of these umbrellas is that the operating forces required to open, close and tension them are large, especially with large umbrellas. This situation is addressed by force-transmitting aids such as crank drives or pulleys. These in turn have the disadvantage of being difficult to handle and of additional costs. Furthermore, large umbrellas with a central mast cannot usually be tilted. This ability is common with small standing umbrellas, as the mast can be bent. This is often associated with the disadvantage that the angle adjustment is not continuous and that the center of gravity of the umbrella shifts significantly from its center, with the consequences of an increased risk of tipping and increased susceptibility to wind.
The standing umbrella according to the invention has the advantages that the operating forces for opening, closing and tensioning large umbrellas are low even without force-transmitting aids, that the movements are ergonomic and that the umbrella allows a continuous tilt without a significant shift in the center of gravity. Another advantage is that the mast and rods can be made either from tubes or solid material, eg wood.
In the following, the invention is explained using embodiments and with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Abb. i zeigt den Schirm ohne Wetterschutz. It consists of a mast (1) with a round or preferably rectangular cross-section and a crown plate (2) at the upper end, to which flexible support elements (3) made of ropes are attached, which are connected to at least four tension rods (4), preferably at their outer ends. The tension rods in turn are jointly hinged to an adjustment body (5). In the closed state (6), the adjustment body is at the top, near the crown plate, and support elements and tension rods hang

An extension (7) allows for convenient operation of the umbrella. To open, the adjustment body is moved downwards. This causes the tension rods to be deflected and spread. The angle (9) between opposing tension rods is always less than 180 degrees. The tension rods form a conical body with the adjustment body as the center, the maximum opening angle of which is limited by a surrounding rope (10). Since parts move upwards and other parts move downwards when the umbrella is opened, this basically makes it possible to balance out any weight forces that occur. However, over the entire distance that the adjustment body moves, the operating forces on the adjustment body are not constant due to changing torques. They can be relatively high at the beginning of the opening process.
One measure to reduce the initial forces is to make the deflection of the crown plate and thus the initial torque as large as possible.
In embodiments of the invention, the articulation (17) of the tension rods is carried out on the opposite side of the adjustment body (Fig. 6) in order to thereby increase the initial torque.
In embodiments of the invention, additional weights are attached to the adjustment body in order to reduce the operating forces. In embodiments of the invention, weights are attached to the upper end of the tension rods.
In other embodiments, the circumferential rope is replaced by radially running ropes between opposing tension rods. In embodiments of the invention, the limiting function of the rope is performed by the weather protection.
Due to the large spread angle (9) of the tension rods, the weight of the adjustment body and the tension rods alone provides a relatively large force for tensioning the umbrella.
In embodiments of the invention, the opposing cables of the support elements are connected to one another to form a cable and run over the crown. There they are guided and held and can be moved in the longitudinal direction. By moving the cables, the cone formed by the tension rods in the open state (Fig. 4) can be tilted.
To fix the inclination of the cone, the cables are held in the respective position by a clamping device on the crown plate.
Fig. 7 shows embodiments of the invention in which the weather protection is mounted below the tension rods (11). In other embodiments it rests on the tension rods (12). In other embodiments the weather protection extends from the outer ends of the tension rods over the crown plate (13) and rests on the cables when opened. In all of these embodiments the weather protection is attached at least to the outer ends of the tension rods. When the cone is in an inclined position (Fig. 4) the weather protection is also inclined. Slight deformations that occur are compensated for by the flexible cable system.
In various other embodiments of the invention, the support elements consist of bands, chains, wire, mesh, textile or plastic fabric, foil or the like.
In other embodiments of the invention, the aim is to make the height (14) of the umbrella roof spanned by the support elements as small as possible, for example in order to achieve the largest possible opening. This can be achieved without deteriorating the initial torques by shortening the effective length of the flexible support elements from a certain opening angle of the umbrella by deforming them radially or tangentially depending on the opening angle, with the support elements being made double in the latter case. These deformations are achieved by additional cables (15, 16) which exert corresponding forces on the support elements.
