Binding-shoe combination for snowboards or similar.

The invention relates to a binding-shoe combination for snowboards or the like, with shoe holder devices arranged on the snowboard or the like or on parts connected thereto, which cooperate with side parts provided on the long side edges of the shoe sole at positions of a middle shoe section that are essentially symmetrical to a transverse and a longitudinal center axis of the shoe sole, wherein the shoe holder devices and the side parts are preferably designed such that the shoe can be held both when getting on in a forward direction and when getting on in a backward direction.

Such combinations are described in the older, unpublished patent applications 195 28 154.3 and

195 44 696.8 (= DE 306 or DE 307). Since the boot can be inserted into the corresponding binding in both forward and backward directions, there is considerable freedom when mounting the bindings, because the bindings can also be arranged in any "forward or backward direction". In this way, it is possible to place the operating elements on the opposite side of the boot by reversing the arrangement of the bindings.

The object of the invention is now to further optimize such binding-shoe combinations, in particular with regard to the shoe-side parts that interact with the binding.

This object is achieved according to the invention in that a dimensionally stable or rigid fitting piece is arranged or can be attached to the shoe sole and/or as part of the same, which can be inserted from above between the shoe holder devices and on which the side parts interacting with the shoe holder devices are arranged or formed.

It is preferably provided that the outer sides of the side parts have a transverse distance from each other that corresponds approximately to the width of the sole, and in fact

such that the entire fitting piece lies below the contour of the sole area when viewed from above. The invention is based on the general idea of allowing a great deal of freedom in the design of the shoe, particularly with regard to the flexibility of the shoe. In order to ensure a secure connection between the binding and the shoe, the rigid or dimensionally stable fitting piece is provided in the area between the heel and the ball of the foot, where stiffening of the sole is practically not noticeable or can be tolerated without loss of comfort, which can be arranged sunk or embedded in the sole according to a preferred embodiment of the invention.

On the other hand, the adapter can also be part of an adapter or overshoe, with which a shoe of any design or a very flexible inner shoe can be connected or accommodated and thus inserted into the binding.

Due to its preferred adaptation to the sole width of the shoe, the adapter cannot cause any hindrance when walking.

A stationary shoe holder 5 and a movable shoe holder 6 are used to hold a shoe placed on the base plate 1, which interact with side parts arranged on the longitudinal edges of the sole in the manner shown below. The movable shoe holder 6 is stepped down from a self-retaining release position into a clamping position when the snowboard shoe is placed on the base plate 1, as is also explained below.

According to Fig. 8, a rigid fitting piece 10 is arranged in a central area of the shoe sole 11 between the heel and the ball of the foot, which is firmly connected to the rest of the sole in basically any desired manner. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the fitting piece 10 is embedded in the shoe sole 11.

According to Figs. 5 to 7, the fitting piece 10 consists essentially of two plates 12 and 13 that are firmly connected to one another, each of which has an essentially rectangular shape and central recesses 14 and 15 that are open to the outside on its narrow sides. These recesses 14 and 15 have the same depth according to Fig. 5, but the recesses 15 of the lower plate 13 have a greater width than the recesses 14 of the upper plate 12. Two parallel grooves 16 are arranged on the side of the lower plate 13, the outer flanks of which are spaced apart from one another by a distance corresponding to the width of the recesses 15. The grooves 16 accommodate the longitudinal parts of a rectangular frame 17, the frame members of which have a circular cross-section. The frame 17 is arranged in such a way that its shorter frame members are aligned with the corresponding outer sides of the lower plate 13 with their sides facing away from one another. By firmly riveting the plates 12 and 13 together, the frame 17 is firmly and immovably clamped between the plates 12 and 13.

The web areas 1T of the frame exposed in the recesses 14 and 15 of the plates 12 and 13, together with the edges of the recesses 14 and 17, form large-area openings 18 through which any snow or ice coating adhering above the web areas 17' can easily be pushed through or displaced downwards.

The upper side of the bridge areas 1 T is slightly lower than the upper side of the longitudinal edge of the shoe sole.

From Fig. 3 it can be seen how the shoe holders 5 and 6 interact with the fitting piece 10.

When the shoe is locked in the binding, the shoe holders 5 and 6 each overlap the web areas 17' of the frame 17 from above with a nose 9, which is shaped in such a way that it also rests on the opposite outer sides of the web areas 17'. In addition, the noses 9 in the top view of Fig. 1 have a shape that is adapted to the shape of the recesses 14 of the plate 12 of the adapter 10.

As a result, the fitting piece 10 is held in place by positive locking with the shoe holders 5 and 6 or their noses 9 both in the longitudinal and transverse direction of the binding, ie in the direction of the double arrows P ₁ and P ₂ in Fig. 1. Vertical movement, ie a movement in the direction of the double arrow P ₃ in Fig. 3, is prevented in the upward direction by the interaction of the web areas 17' with the noses 9 of the shoe holders 5 and 6. No movement can occur in the downward direction because the fitting piece 10 is supported via the shoe sole 11 on the base plate 1 or on cushion-like support elements 20, which are held in openings 4 of the base plate 1 in a captive or replaceable manner.

In order to be able to remove the shoe from the binding, the movable shoe holder 6 is moved clockwise by means of a handle 21 from the clamping position shown in Fig. 3.

When stepping into the binding, the movable shoe holder 6 also initially assumes its release position. The shoe with the adapter 10 is then inserted between the shoe holders 5 and 6 in such a way that the adapter 10 with the one web area 17' assumes a position below the nose 9 of the fixed shoe holder 5. When the shoe is now stepped on, the web area 1 T on the side of the adapter 10 facing the movable shoe holder 6 presses on a tread 8 arranged on the shoe holder 6 and pivots the shoe holder 6 into the locking position shown in Fig. 3, so that the adapter 10 again assumes the clamping position shown in Fig. 3. The binding according to the invention is therefore designed as a so-called step-in binding.

Getting into the binding can be made easier if the tread of the tread spur 8 is convex, because in this case the tread spur can be stepped down particularly easily even if the shoe is tilted downwards with the toe or heel when getting into the binding.

Due to the shape of the adapter 10, which is symmetrical to its longitudinal and transverse axes, the shoe can be inserted into the binding in opposite directions, i.e. locked with the shoe holders 5 and 6. In front of and behind the adapter 10, the shoe sole 11 can be relatively flexible. If the shoe were then only positively locked to the binding via the adapter 10, it would still be very flexible, especially with torques related to the axis of the shinbone (tibia).

According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, longitudinal webs 23 and/or knob-like projections 24 with a preferably relatively large cross-section can therefore be arranged on the base plate 1 and interact with opposite recesses 23' and 24' on the underside of the shoe sole 11. These longitudinal webs 23 and projections 24 are in turn arranged symmetrically to the longitudinal and transverse axes of the binding so that the shoe can be inserted into the binding in opposite directions, i.e. in a forward and backward direction.

supported in the same way both when clamped in the forward direction and when clamped in the reverse direction.

The dimensions given in the drawing (in mm) have proven to be appropriate and advantageous.

In the width direction of the shoe, the fitting piece 10 preferably has a dimension of 90 to 100 mm, preferably 94.63 mm. This ensures that the shoe sole does not have to be excessively wide or excessively narrow for every shoe size (for adults). The distance between the lugs 9 of the shoe holders 5 and 6 when the shoe holder 6 is in the locked position is approx. 10 mm less than the dimension of the fitting piece 10 in the width direction of the shoe, so that the said lugs 9 can safely overlap the fitting piece under all circumstances. Preferably, the said distance between the lugs 9 is 84 mm.

The longitudinal distance between the projections 24 on the base plate 1 is also dimensioned such that the shoe sole is well locked onto the base plate 1 for different shoe lengths. This dimension is preferably slightly less than twice the distance between the lugs 9. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the distance mentioned - measured from center to center of the projections 24 - is 152 mm.

Larger spaces should be formed on the binding below the lugs 9 of the shoe holders 5 and 6 and below the tread 8 of the shoe holder 6. This reliably prevents solid snow or ice adhering to the shoe or the sole of the shoe from hindering entry into the binding. Instead, the snow or ice is pushed away into the spaces mentioned when entering.

The shoe holder 6 is preferably designed in such a way that it can be stepped down into a lockable position even if snow or ice adheres to the underside of the shoe sole 11. This means that there is a greater so-called snow clamping height. When the snow or ice melts, the shoe holder 6 is automatically - actively - re-tensioned by a spring until it reaches an end position or an over-center position with respect to the spring when the snow or ice has completely melted.

The fitting piece 10 shown in Fig. 9 and 10 is designed as a stamped sheet metal part. This has a plate-shaped central region 30, to which lateral extensions 31 with angle profile-shaped edges 31' are connected. These extensions 31 are provided with recesses 32 at their ends remote from the central region 31, such that fork-like end pieces 33 are formed.

Between the end pieces 33 of each extension 31, roller-shaped web parts 34 are arranged, which are received, for example, by means of pin-shaped ends or axes in holes on the flanks of the end pieces 33 and are held firmly by welds 35. If necessary, a rotatable arrangement of the roller-shaped web parts 34 is also possible.

When the fitting piece 10 of Fig. 9 and 10 is arranged on the shoe, the web parts 34 lie slightly below the level of the central region 30, whereby the web parts 34 assume a position approximately flush with the respective longitudinal edge of the shoe sole.

In Fig. 10, the shoe sole area in which the fitting piece 10 is embedded is shown schematically in dashed lines. For firm anchoring in the sole area, the fitting piece 10 can be connected, e.g. riveted, to a plate 36 on its upper side, whereby structural parts of the sole area, for example a foot shell part embedded in the sole area, can be clamped between the upper side of the fitting piece 10 and the facing underside of the plate 36.

Fig. 11 shows in part A a special design of the longitudinal bars 23 arranged on the base plate 1 of the binding,

which interact with the recess 23' in the shoe sole. In part B of the figure, the design of the projection 24 is shown in more detail, which interacts with the recess 24' on the sole side.

The bars 23 form a double bar arrangement, whereby the sides of the bars 23 facing away from each other are designed as steep flanks, while the sides of the bars facing each other are designed as ramp-like flanks. The recess 23' on the sole is designed in such a way that it can only interact in a form-fitting manner with the aforementioned steep outer flanks of the bars 23 and a free space 40 remains between the two bars 23. If snow should adhere to the underside of the sole in the area of the recess 23' when stepping into the binding, this can be displaced into the said free space 40 when the shoe is placed on the base plate 1, so that the bars 23 can be brought into a form-fitting engagement with the recess 23' despite the snow.

The projection 24, which is circular in plan view, consists, according to part B of Fig. 11, of an annular web with a steep outer side and a ramp-like flat inner side, while the associated recess 24' on the sole side is designed as an essentially cup-like depression, so that
