The invention relates to a bow thruster with against the incoming water inclined wings. The present one differs from the known screws of this type in that the wings are larger than the perpendicular to the propeller shaft Have inclination than 50 °.
Nun gleitet aber einmal das Wasser anIn order to explain the correct inclination of the wings, it must first be pointed out that the inclination of the wings in bow thrusters has particular advantages, which has not been considered so far. The stern propeller A (cf. the drawing) with its wings inclined towards the incoming water flow throws the water back in the direction B ; the water threads B meet the water threads C entering as the ship is moving at the speed of the ship, and in connection with these the water is deflected in the direction D in a cone shell. This creates a space with eddy water F behind the propeller, in which there is the negative pressure that causes the eddy and which has to be dragged along at approximately the speed of the ship; A considerable part of the work expended is therefore used to drag the dead vertebral space F behind. The effect of the wings inclined towards the water flow on bow thrusters is completely different. G represents the direction of the water flow approaching the ship as it moves. The impact of this water flow on the bow would cause a bow wave. However, the water H thrown back by the wings perpendicular to the latter takes up the stream threads G, and the stream threads exiting in the direction H deflect the stream threads / entering with the ship's speed in the direction K from the bow. The inclination of the wing must be measured so that the bow is as free as possible, i.e. that the angle ψ, which the resultant K of the speed of the water flowing against the ship (or the ship's speed) forms with the speed of the water thrown back by the propeller, is as possible . must be big. Calculations have shown that ψ is independent of the ship's speed and only depends on the arbitrarily chosen angle of inclination of the propeller blades. The size of ψ results from the following consideration. Since the same amount of water that enters the cross-section of the screw with the diameter α b also emerges again at the length of the wing bc , and since H is to be assumed perpendicular to bc , then H - ν · sin φ. The speed parallelogram d ef g is formed from H and υ with the resultant fd = K and < fdg = ψ. With the help of plumb bobs di on fe and fk on g d and the auxiliary triangles fkg and e id , the size of the angle ψ can be calculated, and the result is that the greatest deflection of the water flowing towards the ship when it is moving is when the wing is tilted entering from approximately 40 °, that is, the screw would be perfect in every respect, the advantageous inclination would be φ = 40 0th But now the water is gliding

B. with large ships only 0.33 to 0.4 of the circular area. The inclination of the wings must therefore ensure that this loss of centrifugal acceleration is compensated for; 40 ° is just the starting point. Since the centrifugal effect of the propeller blades increases the smaller φ becomes, the angle must be made smaller from 40 ° based on practical experience, or the useful effect of this type of bow thruster occurs when the angle φ is less than 40 0 or the wing inclination, based on the normal to the propeller axis, is greater than 50 °.
