Guiding device for the propeller water arranged in front of the propeller.
It is known, on the one hand, to improve the efficiency of the screw
Multi-screw ships to arrange a ring of narrow guide vanes in front of the propeller.
On the other hand, it has already been proposed, only the wave pants or the wave bracket
designed so that the water particles flowing along these parts of the ship
be deflected opposite to the direction of rotation of the propeller.

Creating a good screw protector for dep propellers is according to the invention
not only the space between the hull and propeller shaft is used for this purpose,
but there is also a guide surface on the outside of the shaft,
which gradually moving away from the wave tube or the wave pants, approximately
widens on the propeller radius. The subject of the invention is in
Example drawing illustrates and it shows: Fig. I a section

Wave trousers i or something else between the wave and the hull

an outwardly striking screw, i.e. rotating in the direction of arrow A.
the water flow is accordingly deflected downwards.
To support this preliminary current is
on the other
Side of the shaft a guide surface q. arranged, which covers a larger part
the length of the free wave from the hull and with a gently running wave
Edge 5 gradually widens to approximately the radius R of the propeller. These
Guide surface q. is curved opposite to the surface or surfaces of part i,
so that so in the one shown in the embodiment, flapping outwards
Propeller the trailing edge 6 of this guide surface is directed upwards. Through this
relatively long guide surface is given to the water the opportunity to also
really set the desired current direction, and it will be the same for the
outer turning circle of the propeller generates favorable pre-flow conditions.
At the same time, however, the great advantage is achieved that through this
Arrangement an effective screw protection is created, which the propeller blades
against objects floating in the water, such as branches, tree trunks and the like. this
is of particular importance for river motor boats and river boats, especially if
they drive with a small load, but also has for large steamers, e.g. B. in the South American
Voyage, meaning where the ships are partially forced to go up the rivers.
It is essential with this arrangement that in most ships the area of the
Guide surface and the wave pants approximately horizontally or at a small angle to it
and always perpendicular to the ship's wall at this point is that further straight
by the curvature present in the guide surface this is so stiffened, as a result of which
they can also effectively fulfill the purpose of screw protection without being easily damaged
to become and thereby become unusable for the other purpose as a guide surface.
