Patentiert im Deutschen Reiche vom 8. Mai 1913 ab.Patented in the German Empire on May 8, 1913.
The previously known methods for technical Extraction of betaine or its salts from molasses, molasses liquor, etc. are essentially of two types. One way consists in extracting the starting material directly with alcohol and that Crude product which has passed into the alcohol in a known manner on pure betaine or betaine salts processed (see patent specification 157173, Class 12 q). The second way (see patent specification 243332, cl. 12 q) is characterized by that by the action of gaseous hydrochloric acid the still present in the starting material Sugar converted into humic substances with simultaneous formation of betaine chlorohydrate, this separates by filtration, then the alkali chlorides present in the mass and lets the glutamic acid chlorohydrate crystallize out and the betaine chlorohydrate, which is now still in solution, from the extracted to the syrup thickness evaporated solution with alcohol.
B. durch Umlösen ausA new process has now been introduced for the extraction of the beet- found in betains contained in sugar manufacture. It consists in getting the one in question Starting material first freed from water in a vacuum and then concentrated with avoidance of overheating Hydrochloric acid added. On cooling, betaine chlorohydrate separates, mixed with Alkali chlorides, except for small residues. From this raw product one gains in known manner, e.g. B. by releasing
Methyl alcohol and recrystallization from water, chemically pure betaine chlorohydrate.
In the patent specification 141564, cl. 12 q, is the treatment of thickened molasses liquor with sulfuric acid has already been described, but it takes place in a different way and leads to a completely different product, namely a liquid with a pleasant aromatic smell and taste; the extraction of the Betains is not even intended in the known method.
While according to the method of patent specification 157173, class 12 q, the extraction of Betains are made by the detour of extraction and the process of the patent 243332, class 12 q, the conversion of the sugar into humic substances is a prerequisite, According to the present process, the betaine chlorohydrate is made from the relevant starting material, only mixed with inorganic salts, excreted immediately. It is of great importance here that one through suitable Cooling with the action of the acid an excessive increase in temperature and thus the formation of annoying and difficult to remove humic substances, which begins above 60 °, which can make it extremely difficult to filter the mass.
Eine im Vakuum eingedampfte, nahezu entwässerte Melasseschlempe wird mit konzentrierter Salzsäure (Volumengewicht 1,19) stark angesäuert, wobei durch Kühlung dafür gesorgtA nearly dehydrated molasses stillage evaporated in a vacuum is concentrated with Hydrochloric acid (volume weight 1.19) strongly acidified, which is ensured by cooling
wird, daß die Temperatur 60° nicht überschreitet. Beim Abkühlen kristallisiert rohes Betainchlorhydrat aus, das abgesaugt, mit etwas Alkohol gewaschen und getrocknet wird.is that the temperature does not exceed 60 °. On cooling, crude betaine chlorohydrate crystallizes out, which is sucked off with it some alcohol is washed and dried.
