Abderhalden and Kautzsch (Journal of Physiological Chemistry, Vol. 64 [1910], p. 456) have found that the production of iron salts of glutamic acid has difficulties oppose. So they observed boiling an aqueous solution of glutamic acid no action with excess iron oxide; also could glutamic acid with powdered iron sulfide will not react when boiled.
The surprising observation has now been made that iron salts of the To produce glutamic acid by making aqueous solutions of glutamic acid for longer Time boiling with metallic iron. In this way you get a connection, which is to be addressed as the ferrous salt of glutamic acid. There are 2 moles of glutamic acid with 1 mole. bivalent iron in connection, so that the salt probably has the following constitution is attributable to:
CH9 CH 9
,CH-(NH2J-COOH COOH-, CH- (NH 2 J-COOH COOH-
CH2-COO-CH 2 -COO-
FeFe -(NH2J-CHs -0OC-CH2-- (NH 2 J-CHs -0OC-CH 2 -
-CH9.-CH 9 .
Ferro compounds of glutamic acid are not yet known. It was too according to the experiments by Abderhalden and Kautzsch, it is by no means likely that it would be possible to produce such.
With the importance which the iron and especially the ferrous compounds for the Own organism is a rich use for the ferrous salt of glutamic acid expected for pharmaceutical purposes.
für (C5H8NO^Fe: 100 parts of glutamic acid are boiled in an aqueous solution with excess defatted iron dust in a stream of carbon dioxide on a reflux condenser. The solution is filtered off from the iron dust with the exclusion of air and evaporated to dryness in a stream of carbonic acid on a steam bath under reduced pressure. The colorless or at most slightly colored ferrous salt thus obtained is calculated
for (C 5 H 8 NO ^ Fe:
Fe = 16,1 Prozent, Fe = 16.1 percent,
Gefunden:
Fe == 16,8 Prozent.Found:
