Abstract

Container with rivetted-on parts of flexible material, e.g., cardboard or plastics, esp. with rivetted-on handle, is described. The container is designed as a carbon, drum or barrel and may be used for flowable material e.g., washing powder. The handle(s) is fixed with rivets having an ultrasonically shaped rivet head. The rivet is made of a thermoplastics pref. polyethylene or a polyamide. The rivets are fixed to the container by shaping the rivet head with a tool vibrated by ultrasonic frequencies. When a rivet has been fitted the tool is held in place about the shaped rivet head to allow it to cool and set. The plastics rivets are cheaper than prior-art metal rivets. There is no risk of a user of the container injuring himself or herself on sharp edges of the rivets. The rivets cannot rust.
