Abstract

A hot-sealing appts. for joining two thermoplastics layers, esp. for sealing the mouth of a bag, comprises a blower having its discharge divided into at >=2 pref. 4 flows. One (2) of these flows pass to heater(s) and are then applied to the sides of the bag mouth a little below the top, while the other (2) flows remain cold and are applied to the 2 sides of the mould above the heated region, preventing this region from becoming soft and collapsing. Pressing jaws or rollers from the sealing weld, in particular a pair of rollers, one of which is pivotally mounted and can be adjusted to provide a varying pressure to suit the particular bag.
