Es ist bekannt, in die Überwendlichrandnaht eines Knopfloches auf einer oder beiden Flächen des Stoffes eine Schnur einzulegen. Da indessen die Enden dieser Schnur aus der Naht hervorstehen, so beeinträchtigt dies das Aussehen der Arbeit. Auf der Unterseite von Werkstücken mit Knopflöchern, zum Beispiel bei Schuhknopflöchern, hat man auch schon die Schnur von einem zum anderen Knopfloch durchgehen lassen, ohne ihre Enden abzuschneiden. Dies ist aber nur angängig beim Einlegen der Schnur auf der Unterseite des Stoffes, die im Gebrauch nicht sichtbar wird. Immerhin ist zu bemerken, daß bei einer Schnureinlage die Stiche wesentlich weiter auseinander stehen können, als ohne eine solche, wodurch sowohl Zeit als auch Fadenmaterial gespart wird. Dies spielt trotz des Verbrauchs der Schnureinlage eine gewisse Rolle, wenn beispielsweise das Knopfloch mit Seide eingefaßt werden soll, da die Schnur auch in diesem Falle aus Baumwolle bestehen kann.Ao cord parts are covered by the bartack stitches s, while the cord can still be sewn on the underside with stitches d.
