Of the organic sulfur compounds contained in gases, there is a great deal mostly made of carbon disulfide. The procedures for eliminating these compounds therefore all based on the removal of carbon disulfide, but have so far not led to a practical result. One at ordinary Temperature and still effective at very great dilution of the carbon disulfide cheap absorbent is alkali cellulose or alkali cellulose mixed with lime, whereby it is advisable beforehand in a known manner for the most complete possible removal to take care of carbonic acid and hydrogen sulfide.
To carry out the process, cellulose or cellulose-containing material, e.g. B. SuI-fit cellulose and their waste, sawdust, sawdust, rags, cotton, cotton waste and the like, converted into the alkali compound of cellulose, with which the carbon disulfide contained in gases is converted into cellulose xanthate united, which utilizes accordingly; can be. This cleaning compound is due to its porous nature particularly suitable to create the necessary free passage for the gases on the one hand and on the other hand the carbon disulfide as large a surface as possible for absorption perform. The gas is freed from carbon disulfide and releases, if still the Otherwise usual purification of hydrogen sulfide is done, almost when burning no more sulphurous acid; thereby, inter alia. Luminosity and calorific value increased and The specific gravity is reduced, which allows the gas to also be used to fill balloons becomes more suitable. Regular monitoring of the degree of purity is among other things. possible due to the splendid compound of carbon disulfide, which crystallizes in ruby red prisms with triethy! phosphine.
