auszunutzen. The present invention relates to a process for producing alcohol from the waste eye in sulphite factories. The process consists in making the liquor fermentable by neutralizing and ventilating it directly without any preparatory treatment and then fermenting it. Ventilation can be done before, during and after neutralization. The following shows how the method can be carried out in practice, for example.
. The lye is neutralized with lime, the excess lime can be neutralized with carbonic acid, mixed with suitable yeast and fermented, after which the alcohol is distilled off. The lye can also be neutralized with carbonate of lime or chalk. A filtration can also be carried out, partly to utilize the precipitate, partly to obtain a clear mash; a ferment (e.g. a little malt containing the required ferment) can also be added to increase the sugar content. In addition, the lye can be boiled with peat moss, sawdust or the like at a high temperature in order to partially break down these materials and use them to increase the sugar content.
