Die Herstellung von Alkaloiden aus ihren Rohstoffen bzw. die Extraktion der Alkaloide aus den Drogen geschieht vielfach derart, daß man zur möglichst vollkommenen Erschöpfung des Rohstoffes diesen mit Wasser oder reinem oder verdünntem Alkohol unter Zusatz von Chemikalien auszieht.
