Description
The invention relates to a method for removing contaminating synthetic polymers from Fats, especially from sebum.
In recent years, soap manufacture has encountered difficulties in that frequently black spots appear in boiler and ready-made soaps, stubborn ones become stubborn when the soap glue is salted out Black mud layers form between the clear lye and the settled soap glue and deposits observed in lines and on heat exchanger surfaces as well as clogging of centrifuges and filters will. It has now been found that these difficulties are due to impurities in the raw tallow Polyethylene and possibly other synthetic polymeric substances. These Contamination can be caused by the use of polyethylene bags and drum liners for the Transport of fats and slaughterhouse waste as well as rotten food fats from polyethylene packaging, all of which serve as raw materials for technical sebum.
With the present invention, a method for removing contaminating synthetic polymers from fats is proposed, which is characterized in that the temperature of the fat is set to a value between the melting point of the fat and 95 0 C and the contaminating, precipitating within this temperature range The polymer then separates from the fat.
One embodiment of the invention is a method of treating with polyethylene contaminated sebum, in which the sebum is brought to a temperature between the melting point of the Brings tallow and 95 ° C, so that the tallow is in liquid form, and the polyethylene which precipitates here separates.
At normal processing temperatures above about 95 ° C., the polyethylene melts and is soluble in the sebum in the concentrations in which it normally occurs as an impurity (e.g. up to about 500 ppm). The invention is based on the observation that the polyethylene precipitates in the form of initially fine particles at temperatures below about 95.degree. C. These particles increase in size and tend to form flaky and thread-like structures, especially when the temperature of the sebum increases If it sinks, the polyethylene can easily be separated from the liquid sebum, expediently by filtration or centrifugation.
Es können Temperaturen br- herunter zu 55° C angewendet werden, jedoch werden Temperaturen im Bereich von 75° bis 95° C im allgemeinen bevorzugtFor best results, lower the sebum temperature as much as possible below 95 ° C. When the temperature drops, a point is reached at which the sebum loses its flowability and becomes mushy, which of course makes the separation of the polyethylene more difficult. Temperatures can be br- down to 55 ° C can be used, however temperatures in the range of 75 ° to 95 ° C will generally preferred
If the separation is carried out by filtration, it is expedient to use filter aids from particulate solids exist, which stimulate the growth of the polyethylene particles and you Favor remaining in the filter bed. Such filtering aids are, for example, kieselguhr, too Called diatomaceous earth, the z. B. are available under the trade name "Celite", also carbon black or fuller's earth. Fuller's earth is preferred because it also bleaches the sebum. The filter aid will normally used in an amount of about 0.5 to 2% by weight based on the weight of sebum. When filtering, the filter aid and polyethylene particles are retained by the filter while the liquid sebum passes through the filter.
Die Temperatur imA so-called bleaching earth tank and a filter press can be used to use the filter aid as they are used to bleach sebum in soap making. The temperature in
Als Kühlmittel im Wärmeaustauscher kann man Wasser verwenden.J5 bleaching earth tank is usually between 100 ° and 110 0 C, and for cooling the molten !! Talges on their way from the bleaching earth tank to the filter press can be interposed with heat exchangers. Water can be used as the coolant in the heat exchanger.
Es ist nicht möglich, das PolyethylenWhen starting a system after the installation of new filter cloth in the filter press is first filtrierhilfsmittelhaltigen called sebum can send through the filter press to occupy the new towels Filtrierhilfsmittelteilchen with a temperature of 100 ° to 110 0C. The sebum that flows out of the filter can be returned to the bleaching earth tank. Thereafter, one can set the heat exchanger in operation so that the sebum reaches a temperature in the range of 75 ° to 9O 0 C in the filter press. If the filter cloths need to be replaced, the whole process is repeated, discarding the old filter cloths with the separated polyethylene and filter aid.
The separation can also be carried out in another way, for example with the aid of a centrifuge, or by inserting a special filter at another point in the system at which the sebum has the required temperature or can be brought to this. It is not possible to use the polyethylene
