Abstract

The carriage has a fixed shaft (1) with a plug-in connection (7) for a frame (8) with a pair of shafts for one pony. This frame may be replaced by a shaft with swingletrees adapted for two ponies side-by-side. There is a horizontal footrest (2) on the shaft and a triangular or trapezoidal footplate approximately level with the axle (13) for the two wheels (12). The seat (4) is square with rounded corners and is set on a frame (5) so that its height above the ground is greater than the diameter of the wheels. The shaft may be made of a square or circular cross-section tube which may have a 100 to 120 degree bend in the vertical plane.

Zweiräderige Kutschen dieser Art bezeichnet man im allgemeinen als Sulky. Ein Sulky üblicher Bauweise ist in Hinsicht auf Größe, Stabilität und Gewicht für ein Großpferd ausgelegt. Diese Bauweise lässt sich aber nur bedingt durch einfache Reduzierung der Abmessungen auf Shetland-Ponys (besonders kleine Pferderasse von ca. 60 - 110 cm Größe) übertragen, da der benötigte Platz für die fahrende Person in etwa der gleiche bleiben muss, um weiterhin eine bequeme Sitzposition sicherzustellen. Bisherige Konstruktionen wurden daher sehr schwer, unhandlich und unbequem.
Des weiteren sind die bisher üblichen Bauweisen unflexibel, d.h. ein Sulky ist entweder für ein oder zwei Pferde gebaut und hat ein oder zwei Sitzflächen. Eine Umrüstung ist allenfalls bei Modellen für Großpferde möglich.Two-wheeled carriages of this type are generally referred to as sulky. Die übrigen Komponenten Fußstütze(2), Fußbank(3), Achsträger(14) und Sitzträger(5) sind nach Anspruch 3 - 6 so beschaffen, dass sie auf das notwendige Minimum beschränkt wurden. Ingesamt ergibt sich so ein sehr materialsparender, leichter und somit auch kostengünstiger Aufbau. Durch den großen Freiraum zwischen Deichselaufnahme (8) und den Rädern (12) wird das Auf- u. Absteigen sehr erleichtert.

1.
