Zusätzlich sind oftmals noch Funktionen wie Beleuchtung, Organisationssysteme oder Energie- und Datenanschluss im Trennwandsystem integriert. Die Umweltbedingungen am Arbeitsplatz wie Luftqualität und Raumklima werden in der Regel über ein übergeordnetes System wie eine zentrale oder dezentrale Lüftungsanlage geregelt. Dadurch werden jedoch nicht die Bedürfnisse aller Nutzer erfüllt. Eine Luftfilterung ist im Allgemeinen nur in der Luftaufbereitungszentrale von Lüftungsanlagen verbaut und ist technisch nicht für eine optimale Filterung von Feinstaub, VOCs, Gerüchen oder luftgetragenen Keimen ausgelegt.
