Haarformgerät mit zwei, zur Aufnahme und zum Formen einer Haarsträhne gelenkig gegeneinander verstellbaren Armen (2, 3; 18, 19), von denen jeder an seiner zu dem anderen Arm (3 bzw. 2; 19 bzw. 18) weisenden Seite eine Formplatte (5, 6; 21, 22) mit einer für den Vorgang einer Haarformung in Kontakt mit der zu formenden Haarsträhne stehenden Formfläche (7, 8) trägt, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass benachbart zu den Formflächen (7, 8) der beiden Formplatten (5, 6; 21, 22) an ihrer der Schwenkachse (4; 20) der Arme (2, 3; 18, 19) entfernteren Seite jeweils eine in Richtung zu dem jeweilig anderen Arm (3 bzw. 2; 19 bzw. 18) abragende, quer zur Längserstreckung des jeweiligen Arms (2 bzw. 3; 18 bzw. 19) verlaufende Sperrrippe (9, 10; 23, 24) vorgesehen ist, welche beiden Sperrrippen (9, 10; 23, 24) versetzt zueinander und in der Geschlossenstellung der Arme (2, 3; 18, 19) benachbart, parallel zueinander verlaufend und über eine gewisse Höhe überlappend angeordnet sind und in dieser Stellung der beiden Arme (2, 3; 18, 19) zueinander nicht an den jeweils anderen Arm (3 bzw. 2; 19 bzw. 18) heranreichen. Bei einer solchen Ausgestaltung eines eingangs genannten Haarformgerätes sind die zueinander weisenden Formflächen der von jedem Arm getragenen Formplatten planar ausgeführt. Durch den gelenkigen Anschluss der beiden Arme zueinander können die Formplatten aufeinander zu und voneinander weg bewegt werden. In der Geschlossenstellung der beiden Arme liegen die Formplatten mit ihren Formflächen aneinander an. Die Formplatten sind beheizt, beispielsweise mittels daran angeschlossener PTC-Heizelemente. Eine Erwärmung der Formplatten kann auch durch einen Warmluftstrom oder durch eine Kombination dieser beiden Heiztechniken vorgesehen sein. Geglättet wird eine Haarsträhne mit einem solchen Haarformgerät in einem ersten Schritt, indem mit dem geöffneten Haarformgerät eine Haarsträhne ergriffen bzw. eingelegt und anschließend das Haarformgerät geschlossen wird.
