Wall light with horizontal and vertical light emission

Conventional wall lights with a point light source and high luminance only provide either vertical or horizontal illumination. However, vertical or horizontal illumination would be desirable.

This is achieved according to the invention by creating not only a horizontal light distribution via a glass diffuser but also a vertical light distribution by means of light guidance through glass rods and light scattering or light guidance through associated glass elements. This results in optimal and more uniform illumination of the wall and especially the floor area.

The light is fitted with a metal halide lamp (1) whose light is emitted to the front and sides through four equally sized curved glass diffuser segments (2) and through a clear glass cylinder (3) surrounding them. A further not insignificant portion of the light is transmitted through two vertical glass rods (4) which are arranged a short distance apart above and below the light source (1) and its light point. The light which is directed through the glass rods (4) enters a glass element (5) located on the upper and lower cut surface (4.2) of the glass rods (4) and is diffusely emitted evenly upwards and downwards on the frosted outer surface of these glass elements (5).

Description

The invention relates to a wall lamp with a metal halide lamp, which is surrounded by four vertically arranged, equally sized, curved diffuser segments and a glass cylinder enclosing these diffuser segments.

The luminous flux of the lamp is essentially emitted through the diffuser segments to the front and to the sides - at a scattering angle of approx. 45°.

The object of the invention is to design the luminaire using simple means in such a way that a significant part of the luminous flux is directed upwards and downwards and emitted in a vertical direction - ideally at a scattering angle of approx. 45° - thus brightening the wall, possibly the ceiling and in particular the floor.

This problem is solved by the wall lamp with the features of the patent claim.

While the majority of the light in this lamp is emitted through the diffuser segments to the front and sides, a portion of the luminous flux - evenly directed via glass rods - also reaches the top and bottom, where it exits via glass elements - such as a hemisphere - and is diffusely distributed.

The wall light shown is equipped with a metal halide lamp as a point light source, for example of approx. 35 watts, 70 watts or 150 watts.

also has a cutout that points towards the center of the lamp to enable the lamp to be changed. The other two profiles have no cutout. A total of 4 rectangular profiles (A), which serve to stiffen the cylindrical lamp housing, are arranged symmetrically in a cross shape around the center of the wall lamp and achial to the wall housing (D). The rectangular profiles are mirrored or high-gloss anodized and are each located on the upper and lower cover element (B1+B2), which has the shape of a circularly symmetrical disc. The surfaces of the cover elements (B1+B2) pointing towards the center of the lamp are rough, grooved or structured and are used for dispatch.

The lamp is surrounded by four equally sized, curved diffuser segments (2).

The diffuser segments consist of a white opaque curved glass pane on the inside and a chrome-plated curved metal grille on the outside. The curved glass pane and the curved metal grille lie flat against each other. Each element is positioned and held vertically on both sides using U-profiles that are attached to the rectangular profiles (A).

Around the diffuser elements (2) and the rectangular profiles (A) there is a clear glass cylinder (3), which is inserted between the upper and lower cover elements (B1+B2).

Spacer rings (E1+E2) are located between the cover elements (B1+B2) and the cuboid-shaped, horizontally arranged rectangular profiles (C1+C2) of the wall housing (D). The vertical wall housing (D) located between the rectangular profiles (C1+C2) can accommodate ballasts for the metal halide lamp.

In the lamp housing there is a glass rod (4) arranged axially, in a vertical direction, above and below the metal halide lamp and its light point. The cut surfaces (4.1) of the glass rods facing the lamp (light entry) are clear, the other cut surfaces (4.2) (light exit) are satin-finished. The two glass rods (4) penetrate the upper and lower cover elements (B1+B2), the spacers (C1+C2) and the horizontally arranged rectangular profiles (C1+C2) and are fastened in a piece of tube. Part of the light reaches the upper and lower ends of the lamp through the glass rods (4) and is emitted upwards or downwards via glass elements (5). These glass elements (3) have a circular symmetrical shape and are formed with a smaller diameter than the upper or lower cover (F1+F2), which are fastened to the horizontally arranged rectangular profiles (C1+C2). The glass elements (3) are clear on the light entry surface, the light exit surface is satin-finished.

The glass elements (5) can have different shapes, such as glass hemisphere, glass cylinder, glass cone, graduated glass cylinder, Fresnel glass lens, glass rod with metal tube, which in turn produce a different decorative brightening of the wall, ceiling and floor and, as a result, have a different lighting effect in the form of light scattering or light guidance.

Claims (3)

1. Wall light with metal halide lamp, which is surrounded by four equally sized, curved diffuser segments with a grid structure, which scatter the light evenly horizontally to the front and sides. 2. Wall light according to claim 1), characterized in that two glass rods, which are arranged vertically in the light housing above and below, in the middle of the light source and the light point, absorb the light and direct it to the upper and lower ends of the wall light into glass elements with frosted outer surfaces and distribute it diffusely there. 3. Wall light according to claim 1) + 2), characterized in that the upper and lower glass elements can have different translucent fields and thus also have different lighting effects - such as light scattering or light guidance.
