an.
After flowing through the mercury electrolysis cell, the alkaline metal-containing mercury is removed from the
Cell removed and sent to the amalgam decomposer. To get a pure alkali hydroxide solution in the amalgam decomposer
To be able to win, it is necessary to remove the amalgam leaving the cell as completely as possible
to separate from the saline solution. For this purpose, the amalgam flows through the end of the electrolysis cell
a box in which the brine is held back by a retaining wall that is immersed in a mercury trough
will. In order to prevent salt solution also contained in the amalgam in dispersed form from entering the amalgam decomposer
reaches, the immersion seal closes a wash chamber filled with circulating water
at. An improved brine separation can also be achieved by extending the dwell time of the amalgam
reach in the end box. The reduction in the flow rate of the amalgam through enlargement
the immersion seal has the disadvantage that this requires a larger amount of mercury
will.
In known constructions, the dividing or retaining walls of the end box are in vertical flange connections
fixed, one of which leads through the cavity of the immersion seal. Such end boxes are
complicated and expensive to manufacture.
The present invention is based on the object of a simpler and more advantageous construction
an end box to find a good separation of the salt solution with a low mercury requirement
made possible from the amalgam.
According to a further idea of the invention, the weir strips are on a screw-off sod plate
arranged, which closes the end box via a horizontal flange connection downwards. The battlements
have only a small height, so that only a small amount of mercury is retained in the end box
will. The unscrewable box bottom makes the end box for rubber lining the inner walls or
Easily accessible for cleaning purposes, so that the two hitherto customary ones accommodate the partitions
vertical flange connections can be omitted.
An exemplary embodiment of the end box according to the invention of a mercury electrolysis cell
is in Fig. 1, 2 and 3 shown in longitudinal section, front view and top view.
verläßt die Elektrolysezelle durch das Rohr 21.The amalgam flows into the end box at 1, in which there is a calming section 2 with a gently sloping one
and then flowing through the horizontal floor, so that saline solution trapped in the amalgam
can deposit. The salt solution in the brine chamber 4 is retained by the partition 3
and if there is overpressure in the cell space, it can flow off via the opening 5, which also serves as a chlorine gas vent.
The pipe section 6 adjoining the opening 5 is shown in FIG. 2 shown. Up is the brine chamber
4 covered by the lid 7, so that after opening this lid on the mercury in front of the partition
3 accumulating impurities can be removed. The amalgam flows from the brine chamber 4
through the weir trough 8 into the water chamber 9, in which brine residues still contained in the amalgam through the
Water can be absorbed. The water enters the water chamber 9 through the nozzle 10 and leaves
it over the pipe 11. After the amalgam in the water chamber 9 has flowed over the weir strip 12,
it flows through the weir trough 13, into which the retaining wall 14 is immersed, and over the weir strip 15 to the drainage pipe
16. The tube 16 is followed by the amalgam decomposer. The weir strips 12 and 15 are on the ground
17 of the end box which is fastened to the box by the screws 18. On the inside
the end box is covered with a rubber coating 19. Instead of an end box, the amalgam flow
at the end of the electrolytic cell 20 can also be divided into two smaller end boxes. The saline solution
leaves the electrolytic cell through tube 21.
